The Glade 4.0

Well we made it to SF, CA.

First impression is hilly. I swear this whole city is just one giant uphill.

We saw Fisherman's Wharf, Lombard St (the famous zig zag street) and will be going to a place called The Pelican Inn.

Posting this from my aunt's iPad (which is also cool)

Staying in a modernized Victorian house which is nice, but the AC is busted, and it's in the 80's . Supposed to cool down some over the next few days.

So far a very nice town -- Noe let's just hope The Big One doesn't hit . . .

Hit up Boudin on Fisherman's Wharf for some good clam chowder or chili in a sourdough bowl.

I'd suggest Nick's if you're going to Fisherman's Wharf and doing the clam chowder in a bread bowl route.
I'd not suggest spending more time there than you already have, though. Rather, I'd recommend going to the California Palace of the Legion of Honor after seeing some of Golden Gate park and on the way to the Golden Gate Bridge instead.

Good recommendations Vindi. of course San Francisco has a whole bunch of good places to eat - and some pretty lousy ones too.

The Exploratorium is a lot of fun as well.

Having a good time so far. The Pelican Inn was at a place called Meyr Beach which was nice. I had Shepherd's pie, which was tasty. The Inn was very traditional UK themed. Quaint but hot and noisy. My cousin's soon to be husband knows a frigid ton of people!

P.S. Trying to go across the Golden Gate during rush hour = bad idea

Anyway, we did actually pass the Exploratorium on our way back -- sounds like a neat place.

And yes, I really would like to have some good seafood before we leave.

Oh and some good Asian, since we are just a block from Japantown.

Random thought -- I am glad it's not me driving here. I would have had a nervous breakdown.

Normally for seafood I'd have recommended Aqua, but it's relocating. I've really enjoyed both Farallon and Waterbar, but they're pretty spendy. The Hog Island Oyster Company and Ferry Plaza Seafood are both more reasonable and they're both located in the Ferry Building which is worth seeing itself.
Ahhh, Japantown, for most of my time in SF, I lived a few blocks away. If you look up these suggestions, I'd bet that most are nearby. If by Asian, you meant Japanese, Maki is close to (if not in) Japantown, if you're looking to go see Sausalito (across the Bridge again), Sushi Ran is definitely worth stopping in to eat.
If you want Thai, Khan Toke Thai House is near Japantown.
I liked Ton Kiang's dim sum, and Brandy Ho's deep fried dumplings are a favorite of mine, you'll find no shortage of other Chinese restaurants, but they vary so much in style and region that I'd have no clue what else to recommend.
If you want Korean BBQ, Brothers Restaurant is a good time with a group.

Heheh, driving wouldn't be so bad if the cabbies looked before they came into your lane.

As for Asian, we are going to order out from a place called Thai Spice (supposedly one of the top rated Thai restaurants not only in the area, but also in the nation). I'd eat Asian everyday if I could, but . . .

That Korean BBQ does sound interesting.

Man, so many things to do, see, and eat, so little time :/

I don't know much about San Fran, but years ago I ate at Tadich Grill (seafood place) and really enjoyed it.

Today is a free day for us, as those directly involved with the wedding are off doing pre-wedding things.

We took a walk down to a Catholic cathedral called St Mary's of the Assumption. Man was that place cool! I have several pictures that I will post later, but basically it blends traditional themes with modern design, and came out incredible.

After that, we went to look into a place called The Smoke Shop, because my dad wanted to pick up some cigars. They had cigars alright -- along with walls filled with weed- smoking paraphernalia, adult magazines, adult movies, and various adult toys (for him and her). Selection of crossbows in the back completed the shopping experience.

What a town.

I think my uncle summed it up best when he said as we were leaving the cathedral, "There are two ways to see the world -- either you travel the world by going to all these places, or you just go to San Francisco and have the world come to you."

Affectionately known to the locals as St. Mary Maytag, for the roof's resemblance to a washing machine agitator. Late afternoon, the sun hits the cathedral roof so as to cast a shadow resembling a side view of a woman's breast, complete with nipple.

And yes, San Francisco is an amazingly international city.

Also, one of the true San Francisco experiences is Beach Blanket Babylon at Club Fugazi. Ask your hotel clerk, they will be able to tell you where it is, when it is (6:30 on Friday)) and how to get there.

LOL I never thought of that, but I can see it.

So we did some more sight-seeing around the city today.

First stop was Haight-Ashbury area, and all I gotta say is: "Dude, like the 60's are still going, man!" Holy crack, there were panhandlers begging for everything there -- heroin, weed, plat. Some really cool headshops, tho.

After that was El Camino del Mar area where we stopped by the neighborhood and supposed house of Robin Williams. After that, Palace of Legions, where we saw a cool taiko drum demonstration.

Lunch was at In n Out Burgers. Pretty good burgers, but their fries were awful.

Next is the wedding (the main reason we are here) which is at a place called Hamlin Mansion, so we'll see how that goes.
