So I'm trying to layout an order form for the upcoming fair season so folks can order custom pieces from me if I dont have what they need at the fair. The sad truth is, that unless things change (and when have they ever when I needed them to lol) I wont be there to take these orders in person. So I want this form to cover all the bases it possibly can.

I tried to get my facebook fans to help out with the brainstorming, but frankly, most of them are actualy my friends at this point  and prone to ignore non-urgent help requests lol So I was hoping the folks at the Glade might be bored enough to throw some input my way!

ok, so so far I have the following bases covered:

type of item requested: Jewelry, An Accessory, Clothing, An Existing Item, Something Else
made of rings or scales
What type of metal: Stainless Steel, Heat Colored Steel, Copper, Blackened Steel, Aluminum, Brass, Bright Aluminum, Same as Stock, Other

Those parts are laid out already, after them I was thinking I would cover:
stones
colors
weave
type, i.e. necklace, pendant, earrings, bracelet, other
dimensions, i.e. neck circumferance (chain length) overall length, width
ring size, i.e. micro, normal, slightly chunky, chunky, macro

And then I hit the wall - I know I'm missing something - but my brain is stumbling over it like its a computer I fried

Any ideas?

I would suggest if at all possible give examples for people to look at, they may not know what to say. It doesn't have to be on the form itself, maybe a separate sheet that goes wherever you have the order forms. People may not know the different weave types or what you mean when you say ring size. The more examples you give them so they know what is possible they may be more inclined to order something instead of thinking since they don't see it it can't be done.

yeah - I was trying to tackle that issue and abandoned my first idea of illustrating examples on the form. Too much work and not enough space lol

So I'm figuring now that maybe a "brag book" idea might work.

It could have pics of all of my work, like a catalog, but also have a page dealing with ring sizes and a section of weave examples.

If you're able to have some physical examples on hand, labelled with ring size, weave type, stones used, etc., that would probably be the best help. Let people see and touch!

Well I've been thinking about it, ant a lot of what I need to know on a special order isnt anything your average person is going to know anything about.

So I'm going to have a "brag book" to show examples of everything I have made in the past as well as samples of anodized aluminum scales for color reference and a section with info about the different metals they can choose and the pluses and minuses of each one with my recomendations for thier use. In the brag book will be a special order walk-through. It will walk folks through the order form to keep things from getting confusing and it should help my retailer walk folks through a special order when I'm not there (which is most of the time grrr)

Not so much a question, but when asking for their information, include a space for an e-mail address.

Explain that as in all custom ordered works of art, quality takes time, they can have it quick, good, or reasonably priced, pick any two.

In the same are explain that some people react to various metals and the metals react right back. Have they had any corrosion problems with any jewelry before? I for example, turn silver and my skin black quickly. Then again there are three nights of the month . . . oh, never mind.

rofl - I plan on going over potential metal downsides on the metal atributes pages of the walk-through for sure.

As for email, I actualy start the form out with contact info including that email addy, cause I will need to consult with them as I create thier piece.
