Alright. Who gets really weird, freakish hairs growing on/in their ears? Finding weird hairs in my ears is swiftly becoming one of my wife's favorite past-times these days. Luckily there aren't so many of them but something tells me the frequency will pick up as I get older.

How bout you guys?

I could copy your post as my own and it would be 100% accurate for me.

I am not usually the one who finds them. Oonagh usually clues me in and then I tell her to yank them for me.

Every like 6 months or so I'll find one growing out of an earlobe... one day, nothing, the next, it's like 4 inches long.

I pluck 'em during staff meetings or on my drive to/from work.

I hates them. I do not wish to become my father (in this respect at least).

I notice mine and that they started being much more frequent around age 35. Whenever I see ear and/or nose hair (especially long ones growing out of someone else) my OCD goes bonkers. I happily check and pluck mine away on a daily basis.

Man, I think I'm safe, thankfully. I'm way beyond 35, and haven't experienced much of that.

Then again, maybe it's not a good thing. I have more ear wax than I know what to do with. Maybe that's the tradeoff?

Trivia:

Ear hair is supposedly encoded only on the Y chromosome. There it is a male only trait. Look at your dad to see if you will get it.

Its encoded right next to 'grumpiness' and 'pattern baldness' !

My roommate has gnarly ear hair. I tell him to shave it or something but he just ignores it. Much like he ignores his back.

Nitefox gets them all the time. He does not like it when I pluck them. He likes to trim them. I keep telling him he is going to wind up looking like this guy: Image

Cut 'em, pluck 'em, whatever; just get rid of them. Ear and nose hair(s?) are the most annoying thing about getting older.

Naw, pattern baldness is on the X chromosome. (Look at your mother's brothers...) And grumpiness, well I have plenty so it can't just be a Y linked expression.

Interesting. My hair is almost identical to my fathers in terms of balding pattern... My Mothers only Brother had a big full head of hair (no signs of pattern baldness). My hair is closer in color to him, but the balding pattern and consistency of the hair is almost identical to my fathers.

Maternal uncles have a 50% chance of having the same X chromosome (received from your maternal grandmother) that your mother received. Your paternal grandfather's X chromosome is passed on to your mother 100% of the time. But unless you can follow your maternal line and look at each of their father's, uncles are the only chance you get to see the second X your mom got.
