The Glade 4.0

Some of you may remember me posting pictures of the first guitar I built on 3.0. Well, I finished my second guitar (and finally got around to getting a few pictures). This one is as unique as a traditional acoustic guitar can be.

It's based on a concert jumbo body shape (wide lower bought, very narrow waist), but has some added 'features'. Most notably the sound port on top the upper bought (this improves the sound for the player), the cutaway, and most significantly, the "Wedge" shaped body, which is an ergonomic enhancement many people like, especially people with chronic shoulder problems.

The 'wedge' shape makes it about an inch thinner at the top (the part under your arm) than at the bottom (the part that rests on your leg). but the volume of the body remains about the same.

* Sitka Spruce Top with a little bear claw/silking (they charge extra for that :-/ )
* East Indian Rosewood back/sides
* Hawaiian Koa bindings, with maple and black fiber purflings.
* ABLAM (Abalone) trim around the top
* Ebony headplate laminate
* Mother of Pearl (shell) inlay letter Neck is Mahogany with a East Indian Rosewood center laminate
* 25.5" scale, 1.75" nut width, and 2.25" string spacing at the bridge

Construction was actually done during a 2 week marathon summer vacation back in June. Finish and setup came later.

I doubt I will ever sell them.. at least not on a commission basis... A)I do it for the enjoyment of it, and I don't want it to seem like work.. and B) selling them brings on an entire 'nother layer of skill... that being support, repair, setup etc...

I don't have much skill in repairs such as finish cracks, chips and dents, and major neck reset stuff.. I'd have to sell someone a guitar I couldn't support for them afterwards.

Maybe someday, after a few have settled in and I see how they are going to hold up, I might consider selling some on an 'as-is' basis.. if nothing else to make room so I can make more. =)
