Apparently, the car was already totaled, and was donated for the video.

It was a viral video advertisement that was intended to send a message that illegal parking wont be tolerated.

I'd say he was pretty successful.

Hey, it was fun and got the message across. The mayor got to drive a big military vehicle, crush a car that was going to be destroyed anyway, and ride off into the distance on his motor scooter. Inspired silliness, I highly approve.

I'm jealous. I spent for years of my life in hospital parking. I would have loved to drive a tank over an illegal parked car even if it is only symbolic.
