Placed in context of music and Neil Young having been mentioned, this is... controversial.
I assumed the reference was to the Lynrd Skynrd lyrics.

What do you think the Lynyrd Skynyrd lyrics are referencing?

Well, my understanding was that TheRiov called Screeling a southern man because Screeling don't need Neil Young around anyhow. I don't see the controversy in that. Since you appear to see controversy, I assumed you were thinking about the Neil Young song "Southern Man" and not the Lynrd Skynrd song "Sweet Home Alabama".
Perhaps this conversation would be easier if you'd explain to me what controversy you're referencing so that I can understand what it is that you're trying to say?

That's the point. Sweet Home Alabama references the Neil Young song "Southern Man." A reference to Ronnie van Zant's lyrics about Neil Young is also a reference to the Neil Young song Southern Man. You can't say "It was about the Lynyrd Skynyrd song, not the Neil Young Song!" The Lynyrd Skynyrd song (well, that verse in it, anyway) is completely about the Neil Young song! :)

Ah, but you *could* say 'it was about the Neil Young song, not the Lynrd Skynrd song'.
