And for all of you How I Met Your Mother fans out there, what thread discussing Tiffany mall tours and the eccentricities of the 80's would be complete without some Robin Sparkles?

There's a Wikipedia page for the song. It has the following quote: "Forget Bieber fever, I have the Black Plague'

Well FarSky wins. (But barely!)

Ok, I am now officially a Rebecca Black supporter.

Gawker wrote:
Rebecca Black, star of the hugely popular and terrible "Friday" viral video, complained to The Daily Beast today about the mean things people are saying about her on the Internet: "Those hurtful comments really shocked me," she said. "At times, it feels like I'm being cyberbullied." And this was before 4chan launched "Operation Black Friday."

13-year-old Rebecca Black is appearing on Good Morning America tomorrow (Friday!), marking the culmination of what could be called Friday Week on the Internet. The video's been just as huge on 4chan's notorious /b/ board, and users are now buzzing about how to respond to Black's appearance. A former student at Black's Orange County middle school posted the contact information for the school tonight, along with a copy of its calendar and a map of the campus. Others have started "doxing" Black—that is, digging up her and her parents' contact and social networking information. They've already come up with a half-dozen potential home addresses.

So what's going to happen tomorrow? A proposal for "Operation Black Friday" circulating the board goes like this:

4chan wrote:
here are some simple orders. 12pm est, start calling the school with all of the numbers and tardy bullshit, fax as many nudes of ANYTHING (girl blowing horse for example) and put rebecca's name on it. at 1pm est DDoS Ark Music Factory. at 3pm est, start requesting her (sorry excuse for) music on the radio

(Ark Music Factory is the vanity production company that Black's parents paid $2,000 to record "Friday" and make the video, according to the Daily Beast.)

Right now the effectiveness of 4chan "raid" on Rebecca Black is uncertain. Given that her popularity is built largely on the mass scorn of anonymous people on the Internet, 4chan's anti-Black crusade might get lost in a sea of haters. She's already fended off a Twitter assault by angry Beliebers. And, to be fair, some users have expressed concern over how it would look for them to target a middle schooler, perhaps having learned some lessons from the time they harassed 11-year-old viral video star Jessi Slaughter into police protection.

"I fully support the action against Ark Music Factory, though think about how the media could spin targetting a 13yo girl," wrote one 4channer. "They would try to use it to discredit and smear the name of Anonymous, potentially detracting credibility from future efforts." Another possibility: 4chan's founder Moot steps in and shuts down the raid. (He's been cracking down recently.) We'll see.

Obviously it's a terrible song and video, but jesus, she's just a kid!

I don't think an explanation for this song has been given yet so here you go:

1) Company offers music video service
2) Girl (Rebecca) has parents pay $2k
3) Company provides lyrics, green screen, video production
4) Girl now has a music video

Rebecca Black was not the first, only the most noticed. There are others out there.

Yeah, I'm with you RD. That's actually pretty good for a 13 year old who isn't being "masterminded by the music industry".

Also anyone who thinks her music video is so horrible should wonder why people like Simon Cowell are being interviewed about it. It's not an easy feat to be one of the most trending topics online. She's also at #29 on iTunes sales.

I wouldn't be so quick to say popularity (fleeting, quite likely) is tied together with quality, which seems to be the implication in your post.

Lenas' explanation makes plenty of sense. She's a typical girl without any noteworthy talent who probably had a lot of fun doing it... and that normally would be the end of the story. The Internet being the Internet has made this more than that, especially with the whole outpouring of support against all the hate sent her way.

Now, I certainly wouldn't turn down fancy iTunes sales if some ...less-that-quality video of my own went viral and was mocked by millions. :p Good for her on that account, I suppose. I just wouldn't expect it to continue much.

I am heavily reminded of that William Hung fellow. Same situation, cept with more of an innocent victim aspect, and less horrible badness.

Heh. I saw that "Bellatrix LeStrange" was a trending topic on Twitter, and found out why. After the explosion of "Friday" last week, a new line started making the rounds: "Bellatrix LeStrange killed the wrong Black."

Stephen Colbert performs Rebecca Black's "Friday" with The Roots on Jimmy Fallon's show for charity.

This is definitely the crowning moment of awesome for this phenomenon.

'Glee' to cover Rebecca Black's 'Friday'
Surprise singing sensation Rebecca Black may have her share of critics, but don't count the cast of "Glee" among them. In fact, the students of McKinley High will be performing her viral song "Friday" on an upcoming episode of the Fox series.

Though Black's video features the teen heading out for a night on the town with her female pals, it won't be the "Glee" girls who'll be singing her song, reports Vulture. Instead, Artie (Kevin McHale), Sam (Chord Overstreet), and Puck (Mark Salling) will take on the tune about weekend partying and fun.
