Anyway, earlier this week I inquired about the science fair schedule since I hadn't heard anything. I received a call back from the principal.
"No, we don't have a science fair. But we do have a reading night. Also, in April we have a career day. Last year a police officer brought in a dog to demonstrate how it responds to commands."
/facepalm
"Yes, well that's good, but that doesn't have anything to do with science. I think we can find room to teach them about reading and include science. What needs to happen to implement a science fair at the school?"
"That's a wonderful idea, but blah blah resources, blah blah staff contracts, blah blah blah."
"Well let's not start throwing up roadblocks yet - if it's a wonderful idea, we can find a way to make it happen."
She'll get back to me after the next meeting. Yeesh.
