I'd just like to spread some hate for anyone who has readily access to the fluffy white stuff... the closest I'll ever get to some is to drive almost 8 hours up a mountain, and even then it's mostly the artificial stuff... *sniffles*

I WANT SNOW

I am considering moving to either near Tahoe or the Rockies. I have family in Denver but Tahoe is also a weekend's drive from Santa Cruz ... choices.

Also, I don't have too "ready" access where I currently live. This season, I logged 27 days and it took me 9641 miles of driving to do it.

Lydiaa, come visit in your summer, be cool, go skiing, boarding or gambling in the Tahoe and Reno area.

Rafael, if you're moving to Tahoe bring a job with you. On the other hand the Sacramento Metropolitan area stretches from half an hour from snow to two hours from snow during a good winter. It is easily accessible here. Oh, and Santa Cruz is pretty close to 125 miles from where I live. My mother and sister live a block away from each other about 10 miles up the hill from the beach up in the beautiful redwoods of Boulder Creek, CA.

Tahoe as in http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lake_Tahoe ??
I was in Las Vegas one year for new years, no snow, not even a tiny spec *sniffles*

The only snow i've seen was when I visited Washington DC back in the days (2000? 2001ish?) It was white and fluffy and I made my first *kinda small* snow man ^-^

Yes, South Shore is about a two hour drive from me if there is little traffic. North Shore is a little longer. Snows there pretty much every year, sometimes very deep.

Check here, random selection off the first of many pages of websites (1.64 million hits) extolling the virtues of the Lake Tahoe area ski resorts.

Las Vegas rarely gets snow, ask Mus and Darkseige.

Think skiing in Tasmania versus skiing in Darwin.

Heavenly @ North Tahoe is just that ... heavenly. Everyone who has been has had nothing but good stories.

Same w/ Northstar for all the park rats like myself.

Can't imagining myself skiing haha! If you see someone stuck in the snow with their arse and skii in the air, it would probably be me. I'm more, make snow angels, build snow man, go back to the hotel and lay next to a hot fire kinda holiday person.

That does look beautiful though. *long drawn out sigh*

Lodge bunny is an ancient skiing tradition. Feel free to go for it, though I'm sure Rafael would be happy to give you lessons.

Lydiaa, you can get similar beauty in Tasmania, the mountains hold a lot of snow in your winter and spring. Then of course there is always the legend of the Man from Snowy River, somewhere in Australia. One of the great things about snow? It gives you a good reason to wear Ugg Boots, weatherproofed.

Even up in "meh-ish" Vermont, the weather can be quite beautiful. Early spring tends to get those very deep jay blue skies. We had some very deep blue's this weekend making for excellent conditions. The pic was just snapped with my phone while I was heading down from the summit but it's too bad I didn't have a real camera. The blueness of the sky is just unreal.

Killington, right off the K1 summit. Although I did do Okemo this season, too. It was the weekend of Feb 26 when we got that massive powder dump. I skidaddled out of work on Friday to drive up Thursday (left at midnight) to get up Mount Snow near West Dover then up to Okemo to meet up with some friends. There was like a foot of fresh, untouched pow at Snow when we got there and by the end of the day when we got back to the car, there was another 12 inches at least.

Here's the log for the season:

A picture, not mine, from one of the more scenic points on one of the more popular runs at Heavenly ski resort. Yes, that is part of Lake Tahoe in the picture.

Lake Tahoe is a beautiful area. My uncle used to live out there and my family visited him once.

Okay Hokanu, who are you standing next to?

He looks familiar, but that might be my imagination.

Never mind, its Edward James Olmos, I never watched the new Galactica and I haven't seen him for years, man, he's showing those years too.

He is one frakkin' awesome guy. His presentation was very well done and while he may look like he is showing his age (64) he sure as hell doesn't act like it!
He asked if anyone had seen BSG and about 80% of the crowd raised their hand. He said this was the biggest turnout of BSG fans he had. Then of course he lead us in a rousing round of SO SAY WE ALL. Man, he was just BELTing it out too! There were a few people who really had no idea what was going on and he was pretty good natured about filling them in. I got some of it on video; I'll get it posted here soon.

Where was that? At first, I assumed Con of some sort. But the Microsoft display thingie looks out of place for a Scifi Con.
