So I have a friend whose wife is really good at saving money via coupons when she shops. I guess she's going to start posting some of her tips on a blog. She has one post up now where she talks about paying only $11 for $50 worth of food. In case any of you are looking to save money on groceries, you might bookmark this. Hopefully it helps somebody. I know it will help us.

I hate dealing with grocery coupons, and I don't really buy enough food for it to make it worth the hassle.

The problem I really have is buying groceries and cooking for 1 person. I don't go through food fast enough, so I end up just throwing it away.

I'll buy lunch meat, but unless I overload on sandwiches, I can't use it up fast enough. If I try and have any variety, then its worse. I have to resort to just getting frozen food type stuff...which sucks.

There are still things you should have. A stock of rice, noodles and pasta keeps (basically) forever. Canned goods to include different tomatoes (paste, sauce, diced), beans, corn, other vegetables of your choice. Frozen vegetables (may be some overlap with canned). A good selection of spices. Soup should be on hand, definitely. Most meats handle being frozen just fine. Really, only dairy and fresh produce are you not going to be able to stock up on.

Or have a mum who has a garage filled up like a bomb shelter where you can go 'shopping' for food. We buy bulk to save money, and mum takes it to a whole nother level.

Taragos are called Previas here. The previa is basically a Voyager clone, a common minivan.

They are going out of fashion, replaced by SUVs by those who can afford them. Still considered useful by moms withlots of kids.
