Do you buy retail ink cartridge refills or a refill kit for your printer? |

Isn't it cheaper to buy a new printer? :p |

Yeah but new printers only come with the ink cartridges half full. |

I usually end up buying the cartridges, around midnight, which usually means WalMart. Mostly because I run out at the most inconvenient times, like when I really need to print something for the morning. |

I stopped buying Inkjet 1 printer ago. That was about 6 years ago, IIRC. I've replaced my toner once, about 3 months ago. |

Bought a laser printer from Dell, 6000 pages per toner roll. Used to refill ink cartridges but it was messy and dried up super fast. |

Laser printers sound awesome. I bought some refilled cartridges off ebay last night. We'll see how that works. |

I've heard a lot of people getting old lasers at auctions and stuff, replacing the consumables and having them run really well. Even if you get a cheap used laser, your initial investment is going to be larger, but your price per page is going to be smaller. I've yet to try this myself. My current inkjet is decent on (black) ink and I don't mess with aftermarket cartridges. |

The thing that sealed the deal for me springing for a laser was that I don't print often enough to keep inkjet printheads in good shape. If you print sporadically and the printheads are constantly drying out, that's the point where you definitely need to just eat the initial cost and get a laser that'll last you many years without a second thought. If you NEED color, though... you might be better off making a schedule to print test/cleaning pages or something on a weekly or biweekly basis to extend the life of your cartridges. If you're actually running out of ink in your inkjets, and buying new ones, you might be at the point where the per-page savings of the color laser might add up quickly. |

Good points, Kaffis. At the moment, I don't need color. Guitar tabs and .PDF sewing patterns are the majority of what I print. |

You can get a brand new laser printer from Dell for 120ish. http://www.amazon.com/Laser-Printers-Of ... ode=172648 Or for the cost on an inkjet and 1 refill... $70.00 for a laser printer. The first one my dad bought was 3500. Damn. |

Update: Received the ink cartridges in the mail today and installed them. So far, they're great. I am pretty impressed that fifteen bucks just bought $50 worth of ink. Actually more than that since I bought the XL cartridges. Sweet. |
