A bodybuilder's forum is freaking the hell out over some random guy's love life, after it was stumbled upon by one of the cro-magnon's.

Sorry dudes, but maybe the other men of the world are starting to realize the big secret: Confidence is 80% of what a woman looks for in a guy, and being an ******* or cocky isn't confidence (it's sometimes mistaken for it, but it's eventually found out for what it is). Confidence cuts through all other barriers, including looks. I can attest to this firsthand.

Or, in D&D terms, Charisma isn't always about physical appearance. Nor should it always be a dump stat.

:D

Who knew bodybuilders had that much time to spend on the internet?

Also reveals much about how that group views women. I guess it hasn't occurred to them a girl might like something besides just big muscles.

I won't lie and say that on a purely physical level, muscles and a toned physique aren't attractive on a guy, but honestly, I tend to think more about what they say about the person who has them. They aren't a matter of health. A guy who has a six-pack is not automatically healthier or even more fit than a guy without them. So why are they spending all those long hours every week putting on those muscles? Maybe they are athletes and it is helpful for their job? Okay, that's legit. There are other vocations, too, in which physical strength is useful. But to look like that, your life pretty much has to revolve around bodybuilding. And if you don't have a reason like your vocation, then it turns into "I spend most of my waking hours putting on purely cosmetic muscle trying to look sexy."

Nothing wrong with wanting to look good. Women spend a few minutes before going anywhere putting on makeup. It's good to be at least somewhat concerned about your appearance. But when it's your obsession -- your main concern in life, then I gotta wonder:

Is it vanity? Insecurity? Are you that desperate for companionship that you'll do anything to lure in a few extra women/men? How shallow are you that your main driving concern is that chiseled physique?

To be honest.. That could be any forum. It just happened to be a bodybuilders forum, IMO.

Too many like to put others down just to make themself feel better. The body builders I know are not like that. For me, it's about control. It's the one area that I can work hard and see results. I don't consider myself a "body builder" but, I am at the gym or working out more than maybe normal.

You are right, Numbuk, you don't have to be a bodybuilder to find a girlfriend. You just have to be nice and confidence does play a huge part. If you are shy and don't go after what you want, it is unlikely that it will come to you. Crazy comes in all shades of colors, pretty, not so pretty, body builder, underware model, geek, and nerds. Finding the one that matches our own particular crazy is key ;)

You are a nurse. There's a vocational need there for fitness and body strength of which most people probably aren't aware.

That plus you seem to enjoy it. If it's become a hobby of sorts for you, then you should absolutely do it as much as you want (within reason of course). It just happens to be healthier than most hobbies!

I don't know...looking at the screencaps of his Facebook page embedded in that Gawker article, I'm not so sure he's any less of a d-bag than the guys in the bodybuilder forum.

He probably spends lots of time talking to girls. Girls like guys who are social. If you only go to the gym, girls won't know you exist.

I don't think you need much charisma or confidence even. You just need to talk to girls without bothering them too much, and a large percentage will tolerate or like you, regardless of what you or they look like.

If a lack of confidence is preventing you from even basic conversation, then clearly it will hold you back.
