I thought about waiting to make the post until next year, but I am bad with holding surprises in.

This is what my wife posted on Facebook last night. It will be a first for both of us.

Congrats, man. No need to wait, you need plenty of time to have people how fun/exciting/depressing/exhilarating/terrifying it's going to be :D

Are you sure that's not fake? It looks 'shopped to me. Probably a prank.

Congrats!

True, dogs can't read. But they can be very interested in and motivated by an off-camera snack. :D

Thanks all. My goal is to not be a worrisome first-time parent. We'll see how long that goes. She's almost 12 weeks at this point and I heard the baby's heartbeat for the first time on Monday.

Congrats!

You know you're getting older when your friends announce pregnancies and the response is "congratulations" instead of the sound of sucking air through your teeth :)

Stathol - I'm at the age where the latter response is usually to "I''m going to be a grandparent" when you realize their oldest kid is still Junior in high school.

Is it too much to hope that you'll name the new addition to your family Babybuk?

Many congrats to you guys! Enjoy your free time while you still have it.

Are you going to find out the sex of the baby?

For now that's definitely the baby's name (though my wife may not know about that)! For a girls name, Numbukina is one I always recommended to people here on the glade with baby announcements. I think most of them chose that. For a boy, I like the idea of compound names. While some might pick "Jean-Luc" or "Billy-Ray," I like the idea of "The-Amazing-Numbuk" (Or "Amazing N" for short).

I was always on the fence about that decision before talking about babies ever entered the picture. Now that it's here, I've decided to know beforehand what the sex is of the baby. This will allow me to prepare in advance:

1. Painting and decorating of the baby's room.
2. Tripling my gun collection if it's a girl (for her dating years).

We found out the sex of all the girls in advance, and it proved to be a good decision, for the reasons you mentioned.

Getting more guns is good regardless of the sex though, for teaching them to shoot. It helps the attitude of potential suitors to know a girl can shoot. For yourself, you only need a shotgun for that issue.;)

Someone mentioned that there's a baby app for smartphones (Of course there are. Millions, I am sure. I use one created for Dads.). But they also mentioned that there's an app for when after the baby is born as well.

My twisted brain immediately thought "What's the cutoff point for that one?"

Your baby is now entering his late thirties. You will see many changes with your baby, especially his hair color as he continues to dye it to hide the gray. Your baby will show signs of excessive spending, especially on needlessly expensive muscle/sports cars. Your baby will also attempt to recapture his youth by attempting to date women 15 to 20 years his younger. Your baby's emotions will continue to fluctuate as he comes to grips with his own mortality.
