Holy shitsnacks!

- Looser is what something tight becomes over time. Loser is the person who uses the word "looser" for "loser."

- People who visibly see that, due to construction, two lanes are going to merge into one. And they also see a long line of cars that have been waiting in the merged lane. But, being the selfish and entitled drivers that they are, zoom down past the cars to try and force a merge at the beginning of the line.

- People who are rude to anyone in the customer service industry (food, tech, anything).

- People who let their dogs run free and unsupervised in the neighborhood, so it's free to pee and poop in anyone's yard. My dog will attack other dogs. And while I can have my dog leashed, I can't stop a free-roaming dog from entering her perimeter. Put your damn dog back inside your fenced (yes, you have a fully fenced) backyard.

- People who clip their fingernails and/or toenails at their desk at the office.

- People who blast their car stereos around houses, especially after 11pm. Look, my subwoofer's magnet alone is 6 inches thick. I am no stranger to loud stereos. But I turn my **** down when I'm around houses, especially at night. I also turn it down when stopped at a traffic light around other cars. It's called being considerate, peoples.

Curious as to why. Well, toenails I understand, but why fingernails?

I've seen this listed as a no-no in an office environment, but never as someone's pet peeve. Not saying your wrong to feel as you do, just curious as to why it would set someone off.

Me, I'm a habitual nail-biter, so that is definitely not me.

1. The sound. CLIP! CLIP! CLIP! ........................ CLIP! It's up there with wet, throaty, mucus-y snorting as one of the most non-pleasant sounds to be around in a quiet office environment.

2. Some of the people I've been around that do this seem to live by this: "I shot a piece of dead keratin in the air, where it lands I do not care." It's kind of a disgusting attitude to have in the workplace. But then there's this: Ever been beaned in the head by one?

Thats actually the proper way to merge. You zipper merge when you have to in order to allow both lanes of traffic their full volume for the longest period of time.

Except in these circumstances, they're not. They're lengthening the time it takes for the rest of the cars to pass through, while shortening their own. Most people will merge ahead of time to shorten the length of waiting time. The other folks who zip ahead are only in it for themselves.

If both lanes were maxed out, then yes. But the situations I am talking about, there are maybe a dozen or more cars, easily not filling up either lane.

I'm sure he means after you've already been served and are in the middle of a dinner conversation, when they come back to ask how things are or if you need anything else.

My peeves:
• People that don't understand the passing lane
• People that blame video games for __________
• Tipping in general. There shouldn't be a need for it.
• ATM / Gas pump terminals printing out receipts you specifically said 'No' to



The point at the front of the line is where you're supposed to merge. The fact that one lane has a long line and not the other lane isn't the fault of anyone except the people who merged too early. The most efficient way to move traffic through the area is to fill both lanes and merge at that one point.

Ever.

A waiter should never interrupt you. They should arrive at the table, and then you should acknowledge them. If they just show up, and while you're midsentence (at any part of the dinner) go: "Welcome to X, I'm Y...." or "How is your food..." or whatever.

Interrupting implies that the waiters time and intent is more important than my time and conversation. It doesn't take much effort to just approach and wait a few seconds to be acknowledged.

• People that don't understand how to use line breaks (shift enter) in Facebook comments and type unreadable walls of text.

When you merge has no effect on the throughput of the road at the choke point. It's still one car per however-many seconds based on the speed the traffic is going.

All merging late does is pack more people into a smaller space. Merging early can result in a faster speed at the choke point, though, if it's done opportunistically.

Game theory-wise, the best solution when presented with an open lane ahead of you and a slow-moving lane adjacent to you is to pace the slow moving lane. This promotes the adjacent lane's ability to speed up once all the troublesome merging at the front is taken care of, allowing for a faster moving zipper merge when the time comes.

Speeding ahead of the other lane is only likely to promote resentment and contempt towards you, increasing the likelihood that they will spitefully attempt to deny you the ability to merge... and causing that slow-down in the merging process in the first place, exacerbating the problem rather than improving it.

Contempt in a mostly anonymous situation is pointless - there will always be someone who allows you to merge far ahead of what your position would have been.

And merging early causes far more delays than merging at one set location. Just from the uncertainty alone let alone all the individual slowdowns when compared to a steady rate at which a perfectly balanced zipper merge will lead to.
