I don't think so. I've stepped on a lot of bugs, and have never noticed a stink afterwards.
After a moment of googling, I've seen them, but very rarely. They're usually chilling on a tree or a wall or something. Certainly not in a legion.

I live in a log cabin in the middle of the woods. We get a lot of stinkbugs. Fortunately they seem to be fine for most of the year, but every spring and fall we'll have a massive wave of them and they're everywhere. Right now it's not as bad as it's been in years past, but we still probably have 30-40 new stinkbugs inside every day. But I've developed a system of dealing with them where they really don't bother me much anymore. 1. Bifenthrin. It's an insecticide that's very good at killing them and its residual effects last for several months (less in the sun I believe). I last sprayed my place in June and still every stink bug in my home is either dead or dying. It's a lot easier to pick up corpses than to try to catch them while they're buzzing around all over the place. And the ones that are alive aren't too feisty anymore. 2. A plastic bottle filled with water + cleaning solution. Right now I'm using a gatorade bottle. It doesn't really matter what you put in there, but it's main use is collecting the live ones off your ceilings and walls. Just open the lid, put the bottle under them, and scoop them up so they fall in. It's the easiest method of killing/collecting them that I've found, and it contains the stink. 3. A dustbuster. This is a new weapon in my arsenal this year, but it makes picking up all the little stinkbug corpses so much more convenient. I used to just accept the fact that'd I'd be stepping on dead stinkbugs in my place, but now I can do a quick once-over with the vacuum every day and things are a lot better. Of course, it'd be nice if I could just seal up my house real well so they didn't get inside in the first place, but that's not really possible with my cabin. But yeah... I don't like stinkbugs either. Ever wake up in the morning and grab a sip of water from the glass next to your bed, only to find out too late that there's a dead stinkbug floating in it? Yeah... it's not pleasant. |

Sadly, they have no natural predators in America. This is something you can fix, though. They are, apparently, quite edible, and considered a delicacy in their countries of origin. (Uh. Ewww.) |

Maybe I'm the only one, but every stinkbug I've encountered and disposed of in my house...I smell nothing. An ex-coworker of mine swore that he could smell them if they were even near him. Me, nothing. Even after crushing it in a papertowel. |

Tons of em just outside Pittsburgh, but they weren't so bad in the other places in PA that I've lived (essentially 1/4, 1/2, and 3/4 of the way across the state on I-80). During certain times of the year, if I open any window in my apartment any amount, there will be a stinkbug in my apartment within the day. I typically just escort them outside, though... the evil, evil centipedes, however, are another story. |

They smell like very pungent cilantro to me. At first I didn't think it was bad at all, they at least didn't deserve the name stinkbug. But it's one of those smells that you grow to hate. I can't really explain it, but now I can't stand the smell. |
