Somewhere in the world, right this minute, someone is launching a cyberattack -- and a new online map lets you watch as it happens. Norse, a St. Louis-based cybersecurity firm specializing in “live dark intelligence,” has created an interactive map that shows hacks around the globe in real time. The slick world map shows countries trading color-coded attacks, as well as details including the home countries of the attacker and the target. Keep the map running for a while and you'll see an outsize number of attacks originating from China and the United States, which are locked in an ongoing cyber-spying battle.

Not sure of the accuracy of the data, but I love the UI.

Most big internet backbone is in the Midwest. Land is cheap here. It's perfect for building a data center.

That makes sense.

Too bad we can't ostracize Chinese IPs from the rest of the internet until they knock off their shenanigans.

Very cool to watch. Someone needs to figure out how to "game-ify" it.

That's where the secret Joint NSA/CIA cyber base is. Everyone knows that. ;)

The complete lack of Russia makes me wonder about its accuracy. Or, maybe they're just better at hiding?

Edit: OK, Russia finally showed up. But their number of attacks still seems way low.

Did somebody say hosting data centers on mobile hidden naval operations?

It just occurred to me to expand the scope of this question beyond network infrastructure.

Monsanto
Boeing
Pfizer
Chrysler

A lot of biomedical research happens here, so there are numerous other companies that aren't as recognizable to the general public. The AIDS vaccine was developed here. The hospitals here are somewhat noteworthy as well.

There are a bunch of big companies with data centers in St. Louis. (I know of at least 2 Fortune top 20)
