A few different projects. 1. I want it to detect when power goes out and then turn something else on (it and the something else will be on UPS) 2. I want to set another one up as an entertainment system but I know there is a specialized OS already for that. 3. I'd like to set one up to activate different things at a party. One command plays sounds, another plays other sounds, another activates power to a component...etc via the internet on my smartphone. I haven't even set up a webserver for this one - its a bit down the line like a year. Other more robust projects. |

Hubby made me buy him a Raspberry Pi in China so he can use it with his Mindstorm to do various things. He's also linked it to our xbox for 'stuff'. I'll ask him to comment when I get home... |

went back to work full time... 50+ hour weeks + cooking, cleaning, life = sad panda. It's probably bad, but I'm already looking forward to retirement 6 month into being a mum >.< |

I just used an O'Reilly book when I needed to learn Python. Edit - if you don't already know a programming/scripting language or two that might not work as we'll for you... |

Code Academy has a very basic Python course to get you rolling. The only problem is that site, at least at the time I checked it out, does a poor job teaching people about how to set an environment. They'll teach you syntax and check it via their own code portal. You'll need to do some digging on your own to figure out what works best for you. When I was working with Python I was using ActiveState with IDLE. It wasn't much of an IDE, but it mostly got the job done. |
