Saw an interesting chart in The Economist online today. Seems that the Chinese and Indians have the worst commutes, averaging over 40 minutes each way, in the case of the Chinese. I find it funny that the Belgians are third, while the US and Canada bring up the rear. How long is your commute? |

My commute when I was in my apartment was less than 5 minutes. Now that I moved into my house, it's now approximately 10 minutes. More annoying than the length of time, for me, is that I have to go through 7 stop signs and 5 stop lights. |

25-30 minutes. About 95% of my trip is a straight shot on one road. During the holidays add anywhere from 5-20 minutes due to trying to navigate through the holiday traffic in front of the King of Prussia Mall. |

Mine's kind of weird. A 90 minute plane ride, but only every 2 weeks. So I guess that averages out to be pretty short |

WTF.... I had a 1 hour commute in London. That wasn't unusual. |

15-25 minutes, via interstate and highways. I expect about an hour commute to class in January. |

My current commute is 10-15 minutes depending on traffic. My worst ever commute was 1 hour 20 minutes, on the best day - to go only 33 miles. A friend of mine just moved to be with his girlfriend. His commute, each way, is two-and-a-half hours. He's looking for a job closer to their new place. He is loving living out in the country with clean air, and hating the commute more each day. |

Ahh my commute... if it weren't for all the people who don't appear to be interested in figuring out how a tollway works, or they just weren't there, it'd take me 10-15 minutes. Typically 20-30, and it's usually faster to go surface streets, since the tollway is a parking lot more often than not. |

average probably about 30 mins with most of the time being between 20-40, though i've had 1 hour+ a couple times even with no snow storm or anything. |

35-40 minutes, and taking the freeway doesn't make it go any faster than just surface streets. I do sometimes miss the 7 mile commute my old cruddy apartment had, but in an odd trade-off, I can listen to more music on the 23 mile commute from my house. It's just about right...the hour commute I had from my old rented house was just too much. |

Huh, interesting. Sounds like none of you folks take public transit, except perhaps for Sui, living in London. And, most of you don't live in large cities, where it just gets frustrating to drive (at least for me, I used to get home and want to kill something when I did it every day). My commute now is a five-minute drive to a subway/light rail station, and 25-30 minutes after that, depending on the timing of trains. Before I had to drop kids off, I used to rely exclusively on public transit or bike (that's bicycle for my commute. On average, we lived about 12-14 miles from my work place. I could make it on my bike in less than an hour, but of course had to add in time on arrival to towel down. By bus ... Crap, that was a nightmare, but at least I wasn't driving and could sleep or read. Sheesh, haven't thought of that for a while, I think it was close to an hour and a half. I seem to recall leaving the house at 6:50 in the morning to be there by 8:30. When I changed jobs, it was one bus and a two-block walk. About a 40-minute trip. Huh. |

If I take the bus, its half an hour from when I get on the bus until I get to work, barring wheelchairs, obnoxious jerks causing the bus driver to stop the bus and throw them off, and accidents. |

90 minutes, 50 miles round trip. I work with a guy who drives about 4 hours and 200 miles round trip. |

I actually cheated in that I pick my job based on location rather than the pay. The way I figured is that my time even during driving to work should be worth money, thus my jobs are always close. Oh and I live in sydney, THE worst city in Aust for driving. A normal 15 minute trip into the city can take up to 90 minutes in peak traffic. >.< |

He's a 5 a weeker, just like me. Well, he may have switched over to the optional 9 per 2 weeks, but not sure if that would save much sanity. |

I used to have a 5 minute commute. My company closed the facility I worked in and now my commute is 35 miles one way... 45 minutes is the absolute best I can do. Most days its 90 minutes or more one way.. AND IT SUCKS !! |
