The Glade 4.0

To all our Glader mothers out there, happy your day!

This will be my second mother's day for my wife after having our daughter, but it's really more my first. I kinda botched the first one. I was too frazzled with it being so close to our daughter's birth and didn't put enough thought into it. I had to really go all out this time. Not only did I go bonkers on gifts, I needed to come up with the "thoughtful/sentimental" one as well. I figured daughter footprint/handprint along with a poem would be just "ok."

It then dawned on me that I could channel my song-parodying Ogre and get him to flex his rhyming and cadence muscles once more. That would be far better than some canned poem I found. Here's what I came up with.


Mama, I love you because you’re a geek
A culture you gave me before I could speak
I love you so much because you are kind
I love you when rock me to help me unwind
I love you because you never get mad
I love you, even when I’m laughing at dad
I love you when you make me try new things
I love my new Toothless without any wings
I love you when I’m fussy and beginning to pout
I love you when you’re frustrated and wanting to shout
I love you when you comfort me in the middle of night
I love you when you walk me while I hold your fingers tight
I love you, the bestest mom that ever could be
But mostly I love you because I know you love me

I've been a mother for over 12 years now.

When I think of Mother's Day, I think of what I'm going to get for my mother. I forget that the day is for me, too, until someone reminds me with a gift/card.
