The Dreamliner finally got off the ground. You can follow the flight here: http://www.newairplane.com/dreamlinerfi ... ghtmap.asp My retirement is looking more rosy today. Only 20+/- more years to go. |

I watched the take off, then got kinda bored. Although I can understand the excitement for Boeing employees. That being said, that is the aircraft I want to fly in 10-15 years |

Just got back from watching the plane land. Beautiful airplane. Lots of flex in the wings made it look very cool landing, but the most striking thing was just how quiet the plane is. Amazingly quiet. |

B787 > A380 H9 Airbus and their government subsidized competition. Plus, the 787 is *pretty*. The A380 looks like it swallowed something unhealthy. |

I will say the A380 is a remarkable plane, but one that, at least by Boeing's estimation, fills a very small market niche. Time will tell whether Boeing's point-to-point air travel model as represented by the 787, or Airbus's hub-and-spoke model as represented by the A380, or maybe a little of both, will win out. |

Wow, that *is* a pretty passenger plane. The upturned wing flex is really striking. |

The cockpit is what makes me all tingly inside. Simple, elegant, and powerful all at once. |

Congratulations Lonedar. May it exceed Boeing's hopes in all positive ways. |

Obviously Elssar's definition of simple and mine differ greatly. |

Heads Up Display. Think of it as your WoW interface only on glasses. And waaaaaaaaaay more advanced than anything a whole community of UI modders could develop. |

Lonedar wrote: My retirement is looking more rosy today. Only 20+/- more years to go. First of all, mega-gratz on that first flight. Too bad the weather couldn't be a bit better for the photo-op though. As far as the retirement thing goes, I hope you are willing to re-locate to South Carolina, or India, or Italy, or wherever it is they are pharming all of their work too. :p At the rate they are pulling out of this area, we'll be Boeing-less in Western Washington by then. Good luck =) |

Elmarnieh wrote: Obviously Elssar's definition of simple and mine differ greatly. Fair enough, but in terms of major airliners being used today this cockpit looks like it will be a dream to operate. For comparison, here's a pick of a 747 cockpit. |
