I get to tell our developers that the proxy they just set to use is why they can't get to the website they want then undo the proxy that they just set up because they don't know how to do it. Or explain for the 30th time a day, everyday that the files on your local drives aren't backed up, your C drive is not a network drive. Yes it's not a network drive even if you plug in your 'internet cord'. |

Yes it's not a network drive even if you plug in your 'internet cord'. Ahh, that pesky internet cord. I love the "you NEED to put anything you WANT TO KEEP on the FILE SERVER. If your local drive crashes, your laptop gets stolen, a car runs it over, god finally strikes you with lightning like you deserve, it's GONE." spiel. Then, inevitably, the eventual begging and pleading "but what do you mean it's gone? I found this website that says they can restore anything on a crashed drive!" /sigh |

It's not foolproof - but they need to be so proficient with computers to manage to save something on their C: drives that if they do, they know better. |

Everyone here is an admin. God I miss Pfizer. And when I saw everyone, I mean every single person is an admin on their machines, specifically - it's in the setup script. Give you a loaner ...make you admin on that to because it's not like you're likely to **** up another computer we give you. And no asset management. No CMDB either so if they are borking out on a server we are 'Yeah good luck finding who owns the software or hardware that is running on, good bye.' |
