Seriously I keep waffling back and forth on this.

50BMG? Isn't that for defeating light vehicle armor? .338 Lapua would be more practical, I'd think, but still quite a potent round.

My gut says build a second AR-15.

You should buy a puppy.

People get upset when you start launching puppies at burglars.

Puppy's make me sneeze and they pee and poop. Never had a gun pee on my rug.

Although Larson did have a dobermatic in one of his cartoons...

Build a Beowolf upper for your AR. Better versatility and portability for less money.

I'm actually going for long distance accuracy over just massive penetration. I'll check it out but I have a feeling that its not going to handle that much power near as well as a complete rifle built for it.

.338 is considered the transition round for personnel and vehicle I don't know if they make AP rounds in it or not though.I know you can take down a helicopter with it and crack a humvee's engine block.

Well I figured that was why you wanted a BMG, penetration.

In that case a Beowolf upper isn't what you'd want.

Here's the thing though: part of why ya buy an AR is modularity, IMO. Stick with an upper only and you'll likely save enough to put a strong dent in your optic system's cost.

I was thinking of getting a flattop upper cause mounting optics on the carry handle just increases the difficulty in getting accurate sightings at long range.

You don't have a flat-top already?

I've got a flat-top with removable carry handle. Eventually (when I can afford it) I'll replace that with a flip-up BUIS, and then add an optic later.

Yeah well when I could afford an AR coincided with when people were snatching up all of them. I've been thinking of switching uppers but then I'll have this extra upper so I'd buy a lower...so why not buy another rifle...and then that seems like a waste because i have one.

I'm with Monte on this one. A puppy would grow into a dog, so get a breed that would make a good guard dog. I don't know if those come in hypoallergenic varieties for overly allergen sensitive people like you.

Elmarnieh is wisely frugal and does not overextend his finances.

I can't argue with that aspect of him at all.

I've heard USP40 for ammo cost.

40 S&W typically costs more than 45ACP. 40S&W produces much higher working pressures in the chamber than 45ACP and therefore the rounds are more subject to potential KB's than 45ACP.

A guy I work with has some older pieces chambered in 10mm Auto (the round that 40S&W was derived from) ... now that is a **** helluva round. Packs a slightly more power than a .357 magnum.

I've only shot .50 bmg, but I hear .338 lapua is much more fun to shoot.

I'd go for .338, personally. 50bmg isn't much fun without a supressor.

A suppressor is cost + 200 tax stamp though. However as part of the cost of either its relatively minor.

Look at it this way, the .338 is the caliber of choice for Alaskan game. Just sayin. 8-)
