Wow, nifty! I do actually use carbon fiber in my acoustics for neck reinforcements (another feature you won't find on a production guitar), but I don't have any interest in setting up for that kind of fabrication. I do however find it fascinating though. Also, i'm still focused on building acoustics, and mainly prefer 'traditional' styles. Someday I may get adventurous and stretch some boundaries. When I do get around to trying an electric or 3, I'll probably start with a classic like a Strat or SG copy, just to get the processes down. Khross has been harassing me about a PRS style hollow body, but carved tops are a ways down the road for me. Anyway, thanks for the link. Always fun to see stuff like that. |

Rainsong Guitars makes entirely carbon (graphite) fiber acoustics. Looks neat, no need for internal bracing thanks to the material's inherent strength, and supposedly they keep in tune much better than wood. But they're on the spendy side. How far away is Woodinville, Midgen? You could check out their factory... |

I can see Woodinville right outside my window (not really, but it' the next town over). I've played a few rainsongs (and Composite Acoustics). They all sound pretty good, but not... natural... i guess... Oddly, they are hard to find around here. None of the local music stores keep them in stock (special order or used are the only way to get them). The biggest benefit to the carbon based acoustic is the are not sensitive at all to changes in temp and humidity, and will never require a neck reset like most acoustics do after 10-20 years of 'settling'. |
