This is more for the benefit of those that live in Arizona. I got a ticket from a speeding camera back in September. They sent me mail about it saying pay up. I trashed it. According to Arizona law, you have to be served in person with a ticket. I kept my blinds closed on weekends and my wife and I don't get home until late. Suffice it to say the service they use for serving tickets wasn't able to serve me. As of January 8th, the court dismissed the ticket. I win. The Man loses. |

Didn't I read something about AZ pulling out all of their speed cameras because no one was paying the tickets and it was costing them more to operate and administer the program than they were making on it? |

They've talked about it but never done it. I just read an article this week saying they projected it would create $171 million in revenue and its only created like $37 million or something. The companies are trying to lobby to get the AZ constitution changed such that first class mail counts being served. Chumps... |

Living in Phx my Wife and I actually get a fair amount of these tickets, (7 last year) our work around has always been, her car is registered to me, and my truck is registered to her. we get the tickets in the mail and send the drivers license photo that they want. You are not required to identify who was driving. I have yet to pay one. They are talking about removing them if they don't it could be decided by the voters in Nov. |

Supposedly, former governor Napolitano tried to make it so that the camera tickets would give no points on your license, and that the fines would be payable by the registered owner of the car, no matter who was photographed driving. Midgen, I think you may be thinking of the city of Scottsdale, which had installed cameras on a freeway running through their city limits. As far as I know, the DPS cameras are still active. Under Arizona law, you also have the right to face your accuser in court. The traffic camera companies have tried to get out of providing engineers for each trial with some sort of sworn statement about the cameras and how they work, but that's never flown. I got flashed one night, and dreaded getting my mail for a couple of months...but I never got the ticket. I'm pretty sure it has to do with the smaller windows on my car (Chevy HHR) and how they put my face in shadow, making it impossible to determine who exactly was driving. |
