Try the SarcMark!

Stupid Idea? Think About It!

With the spoken word, we use our tone, inflection and volume to question, exclaim and convey our feelings. The written word has question marks and exclamation points to document those thoughts, BUT sarcasm has NOTHING! In today’s world with increasing commentary, debate and rhetoric, what better time could there be than NOW, to ensure that no sarcastic message, comment or opinion is left behind. Equal Rights for Sarcasm - Use the SarcMark!

Meh. Plenty of people have tried to introduce new punctuation to convey inflection and tone (including sarcasm/irony). They tend to fail even when they're not trying to sell you the privilege of using it.

bah, one key for $2? crazy.

Someone just needs to create an alternate character set with meanings like anger, angst, pity, frustration, apathy, disdain, etc...

Would have to expand easily to phones too of course. Imagine text messages ....

I think the point is not replacing words. it's to replace the missing emotional feedback you get from hearing someones voice, or seeing their face.

You don't often see people write "I'm being sarcastic here..." before the post something on these boards.

How about this....

/sarcasm
I think this thread is pointless :p
/sarcasm off

Wow, you really thing the Sarcmark would be that useful? It's only a punctuation mark, It can't be that....

Wait...

Oh, I get it. You were being sarcastic. I had no way of knowing. Perhaps the Sarcmark may be more useful than we think...

Do I detect sarcasm, here? It's so hard to tell. If only we had some sort of punctuation to inform the reader...
