I spent the weekend in DC, having a hetro-sleepover, "Denny Crane" style, at my friend's house. Our Fantasy Baseball draft was this weekend, and this is my main league that I play with all my oldest and best friends, the one that earns you a years worth of bragging rights. Well, I went down and attended the draft live. What a great weekend. DC is a hell of a town. The bar scene there is great, and I discovered the best bar in America to watch a sporting event in. The bar room is shaped like an oval, and is about 30 yards long, and 20 yards wide. 8 feet apart, all around the building, a foot and 1/2 down from 12 foot ceilings were tens of huge HD TVs, and when the Georgetown/Marquette game came on huge projection screens dropped down from well disguised locations in the walls, hanging between all the HD TVs, all the way around the building. The game was shown on every single TV, and there were dozens of drink girls moving in and out of the shoulder to shoulder standing room only crowd. These girls worked so well, that even though none of us had tables, the girls kept drinks in everyone's hands, and managed to keep every one's tabs straight in a room that had well over five hundred people in it. The bouncers and door men were friendly, and the environment was awesome. When the game was over, they retracted all of the projection screens, and ran video of beautiful women in skimpy spandex doing group aerobics for the next hour until we left. I must say, watching Big East Tourney games in Hoya-town was a great experience. What a great group of fans, chanting "Hoya... Saxa..." in unison, and singing the Georgetown fight song proudly. If you ever have the opportunity, go see a Georgetown game at the BlackFinn in mid-town. You won't regret it. My draft went extremely well. My rotation and bull-pen are among my league's strongest, and my line-up is the strongest by far. I was also exposed to the show "Lost" for the fist time, and have become an over-night addict. I'll be spending the rest of my day on Hulu. The drives up and back were smooth. I made OK time, running between Rhody and Washington in less than eight hours, spent almost fifty dollars on tolls, and used exactly two tanks of gas making the trip there and back. New Jersey has the best highways I've ever driven on, their gas is cheap, and state law requires that it be full-serve. Maryland has the worst rest-stop food. When I got home on Sunday night, after a two day stay, my honey had one of my favorite meals waiting for me when I got home. I have the best woman in the whole world. All in all, an awesome weekend. |

And I might beg to differ, but I'll let you have your moment. =) It does sound like a cool weekend. A childhood friend is equally enthusiastic about his fantasy league teams. Me? I don't share the appeal, but I am all for people doing things they enjoy. |
