Caltech-led Team Provides Proof in Humans of RNA Interference Using Targeted Nanoparticles caltech Quote: PASADENA, Calif.—A California Institute of Technology (Caltech)-led team of researchers and clinicians has published the first proof that a targeted nanoparticle—used as an experimental therapeutic and injected directly into a patient’s bloodstream—can traffic into tumors, deliver double-stranded small interfering RNAs (siRNAs), and turn off an important cancer gene using a mechanism known as RNA interference (RNAi). Wow, that's pretty crazy stuff. Although, much like stem cell research, I can't shake the bothersome feeling that playing God catches up to us.. I mean, look at your recent bee thread... |

I would guess that it will be weaponized long before I might have access to any benefit. I read a Sci-Fi novel about self replicating clouds of nano-bots devouring some folks. So yeah, I may be a little hesitant to embrace this myself. Still cool though, I can hope it will help some people. |
