I was just thinking about this..what would make you happy. Be realistic too, sure having a million dollars would be nice, but...will it happen? Probably not. So, what is it?

Me:

short term:

1. Sell my house, not having to go to closing with a check.

Long term

1. Find a great place to live, in a comfy house, min requirements: masterbedroom with master bath with a huge jacuzzi tub, enough land so neighbors are not within sight, lots of windows, I'm not much on cooking, but I like a kitchen with an island.

2. Find someone to share my life with, get married and grow old with

Gah busy at work will add more later

Getting the **** out of California will make me pretty happy. Also, I'd like to have a job I enjoy doing.

I'm not personally in want or need of anything... I guess the only thing I might want is those I love and care for to be as completely happy as I am.

I'll take your number 2, probably, Kirra. Probably not ready for it, yet, though. I also would appreciate some increase in position on the career front. Something to feel like I'm actually making progress.

Being content with my life (i.e. find a job I am happy with, find a woman, make peace with myself and the transgressions I have committed).

3. Going back to school to get my PA in Nursing.
4. Getting a good job making enough not to worry about bills.
5. Traveling; like Ireland, Italy, England, China...for starters.

Random things that make me happy:
Laughing, makes me feel so good :)
hot bubble baths
watching football on a Sunday afternoon
fires in the fireplace
going to borders and getting coffee and finding a great book
waking up with warm fuzzy blankets and knowing you don't have to go to work
decorating your house and seeing a project come together like on hgtv
Hockey games! Love the fights lol
music... Jared Leto (of course) , Breaking Ben, Saosin, Seether just to name a few
vacations On the beach with a margarita
bbq's with friends
great movie at the theater with buttered popcorn

What would make me happy would be for people to realize that all they have comes from God, and that He gives us what we have for a reason. For people to appreciate what God gives, and show that appreciation by doing the best they can to live a life that is pleasing to God. That people would realize that wanting more and having more is not a ticket to happiness, but that by giving (helping your neighbor and the like), you gain so much more than you give away.

I think that seeing America, from the leaders down to the poorest of the downcast, actually appreciate how blessed we have been by God, and doing more than just showing that appreciation with lip-service, would really be something that would make me happy.

Short term: move to Nashville.

Long term: find a nice house there and settle in (for good, this time)

And I'd even be content here, but I want to move to Nashville, I've been told we are moving to Nashville, and the flux between the telling and the doing leaves one in a state of limbo. But that's really the only issue, pressing or not.

Sure, there are things I'd like to do...travel, become a father, make films, etc....but I'm completely and totally happy right now. Those other things would be simply icing on the cake.

Generally, I am happy. It is the way I'm put together. Think of kids playing in the sun after a devastating storm - their parents dazed, looking at the damage and trying to figure how they are coming back from this, but the kids only know its a nice sunny day, fresh air, and the little breeze blowing through feels wonderful.

Happiness is achievable as long as you can recognize that you are responsible for your own state of mind.

That being said, what would most improve my state of mind right now is falling in love with someone who was falling in love with me - then go on to build a life together. Anything other than that is just stuff or experiences, travel could be fun, lots of stuff could be fun, but usually it is so much better when you have someone to share it with.

That being said - Depression is a killer, I let it take hold of me for too long and spent a lot of time fighting it. These days, when I recognize it coming on I choose to not let it grab hold. If it catches me unaware, it usually takes awhile to fight off, but the victory is always mine. I choose to be happy, and nothing in the bad/sad memory file is going to stop that.

Sometimes I have to be very careful about the music I listen to.

Finding a job that will allow me to spend lots of time outdoors, but that isn't construction. Almost had it this summer and came up a hair short on being a park ranger :(

There's always next year I guess.

Really, I've just noticed a marked increase in my happiness and drive if I get to spend time outside on a regular basis. Not too much longer and hiking season will be back, I'm way excited for that.

I don't really care about how much money I make, and it would be nice to meet someone amazing to spend some time with, but that's not a priority right now.

Oh, and I need a new group of friends. The current batch and I.. Well, let's just say it's not working out and I need to find some different people.

Starting a career. Darned budget cuts all around have made my master's degree, for the time being, of little to no value. Tough to get one's foot in the door when layoffs have occurred and staff hours have already been cut.

Alternately, going back to school may be cool. Something like accounting may be best for me personally. I'd kinda hate to give up on what degrees I do have if I go this route, but more options can only be good... especially when one of those options is still necessary no matter how much the economy sucks. :p

Looking at the previous two paragraphs, I think it boils down to simply not treading water anymore...

A career. Self-satisfaction. I have to get the education that I never completed. I need to feel good about myself and that I have accomplished something.

Sure my wife and son make me a happy man, but I can not honestly say that I love myself first. I need that to be complete and truly happy.

Short-term happiness would to be able to quit my job and focus on school so that I can get to med-school quicker. Without a job, I could totally pull of 16-20 credits, I'm sure.

Long term happiness though, I'm relatively blessed. I mostly just want to be closer to God. But I'm always going to feel that way, no matter how close I am.
