My 8 year old and I went to the thrift store and we had JUST got done discussing money....
"Mom can I have some money?"
"No, you can earn your own."
"Well what kind of jobs can a kid do to earn their own money?"
And then, there it was...a lemonade stand for $7.50
He pulled out his wallet and he had six bucks. He borrowed some money to cover the rest and we bought him a cash box and a tip jar and a pitcher, cups, ice, and lemonade.
We stopped by the local produce store and he went in and asked the owner if he could set up his stand in the parking lot and the owner said yes.
He had quite a few customers, and I just sat back and watched him work. He had a calculator, made change, got ice, poured lemonade...all of it.
I had at least 5 people comment on how awesome it was to see a youngster take some initiative instead of sitting around playing video games all day and asking their parents for money and one guy even said there are quite a few adults that don't even have that much motivation, hahaha!
I'm so proud of him. :)

*edit* After almost 2 hours, he had made enough money to pay back all of his expenses and still have money to spend.

Kids lemonade stands have been shut down by authorities because of lack of license before.

I'm aware.

We bought ice in a bag and lemonade was on sale for $1.35 a gallon so we bought 8 of them. So, fresh ice, bottled lemonade, and disposable plastic cups= sanitary.

I am fully prepared for someone to come and shut him down, but in the meantime I'm going to let him enjoy himself.

He is pretty happy.

Way to go young Master T. Your mom has every right to be proud of you. Have fun running your own business.

Good job LadyKate, let him bask in the joy of getting paid for working, its a lesson every kid should get.

So, how exactly does one go about getting a Lemonade Stand License ?

I imagine the necessary license would be food-handling.

He's adorable LK!

Good on him that he's willing to go out there and get stuff, it's a good lesson learnt early!

Thanks ya'll! :)
Lenas, its really really hot in Mississippi...he was out in heat flagging down cars and pouring lemonade for almost 2 hours when I took that pic.
The sippy cups were 4 for a dollar at the dollar store so we figured hey why not, hahaha!
And no, we don't do allowances in our home. I have tried to implement money for reading books, good grades, completing chores, etc but it never really took off.
Noooooo hair cut! Hahahaha! I let him shave his head one year because he said he wanted to look like his daddy and I threatened him with the photos for the next couple of years after it grew back...it worked and now its hard to even get him to let me take him for a trim.

How much is he gonna have to pay the government for not providing health care?

Seriously, that is awesome. You don't see kids doing that kind of stuff anymore.
