Quite a while back (rebooted 3.0 or maybe even 2.0) I had posted about costume making and questions on making a corset, well I never ended up making one then but I ended up making one for my Steampunk halloween costume for this year. I was actually really happy with how it came out being the first one I ever made with a pattern I made myself, it's not lined though so not so pretty on the inside, some of the stiches aren't as straight as i'd like them and i'm not completely happy with the way the edging at the top and bottom turned out, but still overall was happy with it and wanted to show it off :p |

Looks great! I was really looking forward to making another costume by hand this year (they always are so much better than store-bought). But unfortunately life and time got in the way. My original plan was to be The Burger King, and sneak up behind folks at work/parties with a Burger King bag full of halloween candy. |

That looks awesome! Good job. I like sewing as well, but unfortunately have just not had the time. Whats the rest of your costume going to look like? |

Thanks There's burgandy colored asymetrical skirt with black lace trim that I also already made, one black thigh high on the high cut side of the skirt, two spats of the same material as the corset, also asymetrical in that one will be taller than the other, one long fingerless glove of the same material as the corset, one arm guard, one upper arm strap with some sort of gears or clock or something on it and a large repainted nerf chain gun strapped to my arm, and maybe a hat plus the given steampunkish acessories. |

Great shaping! You say you drafted it yourself? Very nice! A couple of corset hints: If you'll be wearing it with a bra, sacrifice a comfy one to the cause and yank the underwire out of it. Bias binding should be applied right-side to right-side by machine, then folded over and hand stiched to the back in the area hidden by the binding on front. You CAN machine stitch the whole thing by using a longer fold in back and stitching the the ditch between body and binding, but it's not as clean a finish. Uneven bone casings can be covered by lovely trim. You've got the faux leather as a binding, it would also look fabulous as verticals emphasizing the shape! As a plus, you could use the verticals to attach hardware (D rings and such) If you're cinching a lot place your center grommets close together for extra power. Use the bunny-ears lacing so you can control top and bottom compression independantly. |
