HMS Investigator was apparently searching for the Northwest passage when it was abandoned.

It seems its in very good condition. I just hope no giant robot menaces were found with it.

OK, I'm completely clueless on all the references. Damn my lack of popular cultural references!

But things like this just thrill the **** out me. thanks for the heads up.

Wow, this is funny; it only took them 15 minutes to find the damn thing, once they started looking, according to Wikipedia:
Quote:
The team arrived on Banks Island in the Beaufort Sea on 22 July and began a sonar scan of the area three days later. The ship was detected in the scan 15 minutes later.

The movie "National Treasure" Aethien--they find a ship frozen in the ice (the Charlotte) and it has a pipe that has clues to the rest of the treasure

Aethien, the giant robot menaces is a reference to the first Bay-directed Transformers movie, in which an arctic explorer whose ship ran aground stumbled upon Megatron frozen in to the ice.

The meerschaum pipe is a reference to National Treasure, in which a pipe found in the preserved wreck of an arctic-bound colonial-era ship had a clue that helped track the lost Masonic treasure hoard.

National Treasure is a suprisingly good movie. I had low hopes and ended up loving it. (Still think Riley is the guy who makes this movie though)

This was my response and expectation as well.

Agreed (except the Riley thing, all four of the main characters contributed very well).

I would also add that the sequel was pretty damn good too.

I find myself in complete agreement.
