20 moves is evidently all it takes to solve the puzzle no matter where it starts. I never solved mine when I was a kid. I had no idea this was still going on. |

My work likes to give out swag at the tradeshows we attend. A few years back we had custom Rubik's cubes made with our logos on them (Rubik's will customize anything for you). Since I work with a lot of nerdy guys, a lot of them know the whole mathematical formula to solve it super-fast. So I purposefully leave mine in a chaotic, unsolved state sitting out on my desk. I call it my "OCD Tester." It's trapped many a victim. |

Answer to the thread title: Sledgehammer Broom, dustpan and waste can usage follow. I spent way too many hours perfecting my solution to the cube, then finding a quicker one written shortly thereafter. |

My trig teacher in high school had a messed up Rubik's Cube on her desk. I tried to solve it and it wouldn't work. I don't know if she messed up the order on purpose like you suggested or if a previous class member did. I ended up taking the cube apart and putting it back together properly. |
