Why didn't Reese and Sarah just leave the country or get on the move to somewhere far away?

I'm sure that they could have eluded the Terminator and disappeared well enough that they couldn't be found. At least long enough for one of a few things to happen.

1. The terminator's batteries run out.
2. The terminator runs afoul of the law and his cover is blown. (after all, his tactics are less than subtle)

It is a big world out there. I think they could have gotten away and the termnator would have never found them.

Which Terminator are you referring to?

The original.

I thought the Terminator was nuclear powered somehow, not a battery.

Along those same lines, why don't the hero and heroine in every movie just run away from the bad guy? :)

Where is that they would run that wouldn't instantly become historical knowledge to be mined by Skynet from the future and countered by sending another terminator to that location.

why, if the time travel system they use will transport inorganic material if wrapped in organic material, don't they stuff a goat full of guns and send it back too? Why are the T1000 and Terminatrix able to transport back without any organics?
Why not send the Terminatrix back to kill Sarah Conner's mother? Why only go back one generation?

Why not send more than one terminator at a time?

Why not send a second terminator to kill her 3 seconds after the first one is killed by the hydraulic press?

The machine broke after they sent that dude back to stop the Terminator. Otherwise, why not send the entire resistance movement back in time to stop "The Rise of The Machines"?

They do. Those heroes just have boring stories that don't get movies made out of them.

Because the records from a generation back weren't electronic and were thus destroyed before they could be assimilated into the Machines' collective consciousness.

Most time-travel stories --and "The Terminator" plot in particular-- do not stand up to close scrutiny or evalution. It is fun enough when you don't think too much about it, but that's about it.

"Time travel. Ever since my first day in the job as a Starfleet Captain I swore I'd never let myself get caught in one of these god-forsaken paradoxes. The future is the past, the past is the future. It all gives me a headache." ~ Captain Kathryn Janeway

1- Send Terminator back in time
2- Have terminator detonate his core in close proximity to Sarah Conner
3- Profit

They were running away - Ahnold tracked them down, though, by mimicing her mother's voice and getting her to tell the Terminator which hotel they were at.
