Thought you guys might enjoy this photo. I took it yesterday on my long drive up north on the shore of Lake Superior, just south of a small town called Wawa (it's known for the 28ft toll Goose statue!). More to come if people enjoy this one.

ps. boo to the 256kb file limit!

I know, I'm perpetually jealous of that fact too :P

Huh for some reason Google maps won't link right when I try to link to a spot - it just sticks a big pin with an A on it halfway from Georgian Bay up to Hudson Bay out in the middle of Elessar territory, that's just labeled "Ontario" :P

Anyway, Jeryn's summer getaway, within a stone's throw: 45.117214,-80.024993

It's not so fun in the winter.

Nothing north of the pan handle of Florida is fun in the winter.

I love the Lake Superior area. My fondest outdoor experience, by far, was 3 weeks in the Boundary Waters.

I miss Superior. A large part of my childhood involved being driven to Marquette, and coming up over the hill into the city overlooking the lake. Always such an amazing view.

The legend lives on from the Chippewa on down
of the big lake they called "Gitche Gumee."
"Superior," they said, "never gives up her dead
when the gales of November come early."

I can't hear that song without thinking about being a kid and taking this little bitty old wooden boat with a 15hp Evinrude out on the open water. There are waves out there (okay, duh). But I mean you get out there and point your bow into a wave but you're getting knocked around on the sides too because it's just choppy all over, and it's hard to keep your bow doing what you want in something so small. The slats in the hull were clattering all over the place, the bilge pump was struggling to keep up... I mean that boat was getting the crap beat out of it out there. But there's just something about pointing your bow out and seeing absolutely nothing but water in front of you, and seeing the shore recede behind you. I'd do it again in a heartbeat... in something with a fiberglass hull, with a bigger motor.

Very nice. When I still lived in the Midwest, we often went to Canada on vacation. Did the drive around Lake Superior one time, it was fantastic. I have a vague memory of being in Wawa ...
