I note that there isn't a single California neighborhood listed in the top 25. Some of you folks live in or near some pretty tough places though. |

There isn't a single one for Maryland, either. That's kind of surprising... |

Hah! New Orleans didn't even make the top 25, and that really surprises me. |

When you're talking about cities though - New Orleans (11), Baltimore (10) and Stockton (5) are on the list, with violent crime rates comparable to those neighborhoods. Edit: That was Forbes 2009 From City Crime Rankings 2008-2009: 1 New Orleans, LA 2 Camden, NJ 3 Detroit, MI 4 St. Louis, MO 5 Oakland, CA 6 Flint, MI 7 Gary, IN 8 Birmingham, AL 9 Richmond, CA 10 North Charleston, SC 11 Cleveland, OH 12 Baltimore, MD 13 Miami Gardens, FL 14 Memphis, TN 15 Youngstown, OH 16 Atlanta, GA 17 Compton, CA 18 Orlando, FL 19 Little Rock, AR 20 Minneapolis, MN 21 Washington, DC 22 Philadelphia, PA 23 Jackson, MS 24 Newark, NJ 25 Milwaukee, WI I'm sure there are more; I guess the differences lie in size and crime rankings. |

Huh. Kind of interesting that despite its rep, LA's South Central didn't make the list. I drove through there once about 5 years ago, scared the hell out of me. |

I have a feeling that the ones that made the list are very tight, dense areas of violent crime, whereas larger areas of slightly lower density are the more well known ones. |

Isn't Compton what you're looking for, Aethien? |

Not quite - Compton ain't pretty, either, and it's right next to South Central. But I can actually drive through Compton without wetting my pants. Wikipedia has a nice article on "South Los Angeles," which is what South Central is now being called, in an attempt to put some distance between it and its violent past. |

I'm intrigued to find that Dayton is no longer in the top 10. That must be a change within the last couple years. |

First, the productive **** flees the city. And later, the city is so dead, that even the unproductive **** gets the hell out. |

I kinda surprised (and saddened) that Minneapolis is that high up on the list. |

I pressed the 'More on this neighborhood' button for Chicago's Lake Street. They are nuts. There is no way housing is going for what they claim, not to mention the schooling. |

Seems like the housing costs would be pretty easy to check. As for the schooling, what do you mean? Do you think the schools there are better/worse than they say? |

Seriously. I remember my friend took me through that area last year getting to Oak Park to see the Frank Lloyd Wright houses. That definitely was not a nice area. |
