So we've been friend for...wow... a frikkin long time, and we've never done a gift exchange that I know of. I was thinking it would be fun to do something small, and many of us put up trees of some sort during the holidays. And we've got people with all sorts of nifty weird skill sets! What would folks think about an ornament exchange? I know I'd love to have stuff on my tree that reminds me of you folks. It would obviously involve giving a real name and address, but only to two people (the organizer and the person sending you a pretty). Flat rate envelopes and boxes ship pretty cheap, and there'd be a spending limit. Hell, you could even send something you already have, and handmade stuff is totally fantastic. Anyone interested? |

How can you "hate" trees? I can't think of anything more harmless and inoffensive than a decorated tree. Maybe the easter bunny or the tooth fairy. |

Real trees are a fire hazard, and fake trees are ... well, fake. I like the festivity it creates, but if the room was too small or something, I can easily imagine not wanting one. Plus, there are some folks that get depressed during the holidays and I can see them not wanting such an intrusive reminder. |

There is a difference between "I don't have room for one" and "I hate trees", which would seem to imply all trees, including public displays and those of your friends, family and neighbors... |

Well hate is perhaps too strong. She doesn't find them particularly attractive, and the whole hassle surrounding having a tree way more trouble than it's worth. The trees she finds least objectionable are real trees with strings of popcorn/cranberries around them. |

Nor "shorts in electrical lights," for that matter. It's not surprising that these things could be fire hazards. The same would be true of lots of furniture in those situations... |
