Post subject:  Gorse Update

It's been a while and wanted to drop in and post an update.

Work:
Work has been crazy. Haiti Earthquake, Oil Spill and most recently Haiti Cholera have kept the pace at work unreal. Our Emergency Operations Center has been activated continuously since the Earthquake in Haiti back in January.

More work:
On the good side, and I think I even posted, but just in case I did not, I applied for, was offered and accepted a position in our Situation Awareness section. (We gather information into a common operating picture to provide the latest available information for (CDC) leadership to make decision related to public health emergencies based on the best information available at the time). It meant an immediate promotion to GS-12 ($5K raise) and the ability to make GS-13 later (a $12K+ raise). But I have been covering both positions since July when I got the promotion and will continue to do so until they get the old position filled.

Home:
This is my main reason for posting. My wife has had some health issues that started this summer and needs surgery. We are going in this morning (like as soon as I finish typing) and she has surgery at 09:30. She should be done by 11:00. We'll gladly accept and appreciate prayers from anyone that cares to send them our way.

Thank you for all the well wishes. Surgery went well and she is doing fine. Recovery time is typically 4-6 weeks, but she is already up and moving today.

Physically this is true. However, what they don't tell you is that the brain just does not work well after surgery. It takes 6 months for the brain to really function well after surgery. I learned this from the ladies at church, and after two major surgeries I can vouch for it's truth.

Glad she is doing well.
