It's amazing to me how much faith people have in hydraulic engineers. That platform is on the outer bend of a abrupt alignment adjustment in that river, and it's obvious there have been past stability issues (see the floodwall outside the fence that's periodically splashed over - that wouldn't be there if the river wasn't being forced away from where it wants to go). It's probably ok, but I've see catastrophic slope failures numerous times.

As a hydraulic engineer, I understand what it means to "tame" a river. I wouldn't be standing where those people are.
