I lost my mother this morning after her 3 and half year battle with leukemia. By Providence I came down for an unplanned visit to my parents yesterday, and I was with her when she passed. She had been doing so well after her stem cell transplant, but in the last 6 months, the disease came back with a vengeance. She almost never had a "why me?" attitude, and kept in great spirits even on days when she felt her worst.

I am confident that she is now with the Lord, and by His Grace, I pray that I will see her again. But for now I will miss her and remember her for her love and smile and incredible patience she had with me.

Condolences Lonedar, Leukemia is a tough death, and be thankful she is beyond hurting any more.

I'd suggest grief counseling, but it sounds like you have a good handle on your emotions.

I am sorry for your loss, Lonedar. Always remember her in your heart and what she taught you, and be sure to keep passing it on. In this way, she will forever live on.

My condolences, Lonedar -- leukemia is an evil, evil disease that needs to be wiped from the face of the Earth.

I lost an aunt to it a few years back, and I understand that she was in some pretty bad pain because of it.

Continue to stay strong!

Lonedar,

My condolences.

Knowing your mother was bound to pass due to the ailments she suffered, you may feel prepared for the loss.

Knowing that you were given an incredible chance with that visit, you may feel the equilibrium you are experiencing is normal.

It's good to feel lucky and to honor her strength and courage. It's somewhat normal to try to honor her with your strength and courage.

You'll be fine and you'll mourn and remember her and love her and all she was and all that she helped you to become.

However, please breakdown once or twice.

Weep with such force and agony you feel you will shatter from it.

Then, when the tempest has quieted and you feel as whole as you can right now...

Thank your mother for showing you joy and sorrow. Thank her for being strong when she needed to and not playing the victim.

And thank her for the times she showed her trust in you by letting you see her worries, her sadnesses, and her cynicism, even if briefly.

Even if it was not her nature, when the world hands you lemons, it's sort of the face you make before you get out the lemon squeezer.

And I believe, given your grace in talking about this, that you, her, and I all share the tendency to mask that face as much as possible.

Also, show your trust in someone you love by letting them see that face, or telling them you made it at least.

I hope that helps the healing.

I am very sorry for you. That being said, I will say the same thing to you that I said to my father when his wife died of the same thing. The pain is all gone now.

Sorry for your loss. Just went through it with my mom a month ago, remember the good things even the little dumb things it helps.

Thanks to all. I really appreciate the thoughts and prayers. Today is a little better than yesterday, and I am able to take some time to spend with my father to help with arrangements and some of the difficult phone calls. Being here for him has been a blessing.
