My brother just created a new website for his photography (mostly Irish landscapes). Any comments or suggestions on the website are welcome, I can pass them on to him.

Here are a couple of my favorites...

I dig his stuff and will consider buying some of it when we're ready to buy more pictures for our living room.

Stunning!

I have never messed with Ecommerce, but perhaps putting alternate currencies up, aka pic X is XX in Euro and XX in dollars, cause I want some of those :)

Thanks for Sharing Aegnor

I was able to save a photo to my hard drive. I could therefore print it myself for free. I deleted the photo, but I recommend you help your brother figure out a way to protect his work. There are ways to do this.

I asked him about this and he said he can suggest dynamic exchange rate calculation be added to the platform, but it isn't there currently. You can still buy it and your CC will do the conversion, but if you want to know how much it is before you buy you have to do the conversion yourself (or have google do it).

I haven't done much web development, but I might see if I can implement something for him.

Or even slap a watermark on them in photoshop.

While you can download it, it is a much lower resolution photo.

Honestly, the only way to stop people from doing that is to not give them the image in the first place. If the user's browser is able to view the image, it is possible to retain a copy of it. No exceptions.

IMHO, the resolution of the images on the site isn't enough for this to even be a concern. ~700x350 just isn't any good for serious print purposes.

The bigger issue is probably just people ganking **** and using it without his permission in contexts where that resolution would be sufficient (site graphics, etc.). Watermarking might help, but it's usually pretty trivial to remove either by cropping or being competent with the clone tool. Tools like Tineye can help him track down people who are using his images, even if they've been resized/cropped/etc. They don't accept "small" (< 1M) image galleries for the purpose of indexing, but you can still manually check if a given image from his site is being used somewhere that they do index.
