Haven't heard to much chatter about Twitter 'round these parts, but I'm wondering if any of y'all use it regularily? I've started to get into it now that I have a cellphone that works 90% of the time. It's pretty interesting, but I find it can be very busy with everyones tweets, retweets, and replies going non-stop! But there is some enjoyable content there. If anyone else wants to share theirs, let me know, I'm cool with handing out my info. But I'm not the best twitterer out there haha, I have trouble thinking up witty and interesting things to say. It's still fun to partcipate in though!

Don't twitter and walk, drive, or fly. It is yet another electronic time and attention absorber.

I don't use it at all.

My twitter account is strictly a receive only thing these days. I found a couple of 'lists' that interested me.. one was local sportswriters.

When I first created the account, I was part of a group of rank amateur luthiers who were all building guitars at the same time, and we would tweet updates every few days, or when we achieved a milestone of some kind.

Other than the guitar stuff, which his on hiatus right now, I cannot possibly imagine why anyone would care what I'm up to on a moment by moment basis....

My usage is similar to Midgen's, except that I follow people like Jonathan Coulton, Marian Call, MC Frontalot, Mythbusters, Neil Gaiman, Paul and Storm and Wil Wheaton.

That logo needs to be on a dog whistle.

Follow Steve Martin. He's hilarious.

I dunno, I think it's pretty perfectly placed. Did you read the product description?

Oh, I didn't see it was linkable, assumed it was a key fob.

Yeah, sorry. I've a bad habit of assuming people will mouseover images to see if they're links. I do it all the time, so it seems natural.

Does anyone else have that bar on the top of their screen that says "you're using old twitter...click here to switch to new twitter"

I click everytime but I still get that message.

It's very overrated IMO. It's interesting enough to go on my homepage though.

Twitter is the thing where you give people short, up-to-the-minute updates on things, right?

Well, first off, the list of people who need up-to-the-minute updates on my life is short enough that it's more efficient just to go talk to them...

Second, doesn't that make things a lot less personal? Spewing a one-way conversation out onto the internet seems a lot less fun than actually interacting with someone who cares about your life and what's going on. I guess it'd be nice if someone's really far away and the cost of the phone call is preventative, but then why not just email? At least that only goes to the people you want it to.

Third, even if you're famous enough that more than a handful of people need to know every time you wipe your ***, I'm not big on getting information about famous people, up to date or not.

Just for comedic value, because I agree that in general there's WAY too much useless information about everyone out there:

Old Man Vlad: YOU'RE NOT THAT IMPORTANT, NOBODY CARES WHEN YOU HAVE A SAMMICH!

NOBODY TALKS TO ANYONE ANYMORE! IN MY DAY, PEOPLE REALLY TALKED AND SOMETIMES WROTE LETTERS ON PAPER AND PEOPLE WERE CLOSER AND WE ALL KNEW EVERYONE!

WHY SHOULD I CARE IF SHARON STONE WANTS TO SAVE THE WHALES? I ALREADY TOLD YOU I DON'T CARE! WHERE'S MY SAMMICH!

/Old Man Vlad Off :D

There are a lot of misconceptions about Twitter, the first of which is always that it's a useless one-way convo or wall of status updates. Sure it can be used like that, but I've also gotten (and given) helpful work-related advice on an almost-daily basis.
