Nitefox and I saw a commercial for this site while we were watching TV. It's a penny auction site and we went and checked it out. Mesmerizing as it was to watch the bidding wars, we haven't spent any money at all...it looks like a gambling scam if you ask me.
Here's how it works:

They (Beezid) put up a brand new item for sale and people place bids. Bids are purchased for around a dollar apiece. Beezid places each item up starting at one cent and each bid raises the price by one cent. Each bid also adds 15 seconds to the timer for the item. (Big items can get down to 5 seconds left on the clock and continue to go on for hours...).

It just seems virtually impossible for you to "win" anything this way, and I would think that one would spend a LOT of money on their bids without getting any return, since you don't get your bids back at the end of the auction.

Anyone piddled around with this?

It's not a scam. Each bid costs a dollar and the site owners are making money hand over fist. You really can get some good deals, but you have to be diligent and bid at non-peak hours.

I've read a lot of reviews about bots and teams and things like that preventing the average user from winning anything.
Has anyone here won an auction at any of these penny sites?

I know more than one person that has won and received a product. You don't need bots to bid for you because the website allows that functionality by default. You can set auto-bids on anything and specify how many bids you are willing to use. All you need is to understand the system and be patient.

They even ran a promo a couple of weeks ago that would refund all your bids on items if you didn't win them.

Basically their scheme is already wildly profitable and there is absolutely no reason for them to **** people over.

I honestly look at it like playing the lottery. You can win and it's legit, sure...but really. I mean come on.

If I were going to start doing penny auctions, I'd probably go with Quibid over Beezid. They look more legitimate and have some **** about the BBB on there so it just seems more trustworthy off the bat.
