To our forum gardeners... if you grow plants inside, or in a screened enclosure, how do you get them to pollenate? I picked up a cheapo electric toothbrush last year, because I dunno... I figured it would be like a bee buzzing around. It works okay, but it is a little strong and I end up losing perfectly good pollen to the air or ground. I'm at about an average 25% success rate depending on the plant (some better, some worse). I'm moving a lot of the garden outside this year, but I still plan to grow things on the porch too. Any alternative ideas? |

I know with indoor tomatoes that the plants are self fertile so just shake the plant every few days or use a small paintbrush and brush pollen on the inside of the other blossoms of the plant. This can be done with other plants as well not just Tomatoes. |

Make sure you wear a bee costume when you do it, or the plants get confused. |

I haven't done it but I hear an ear/medical swab works just fine. But either way don't sweat it, much like sperm you don't need ALL the pollen to transfer for pollination to occur. |
