So what's everyone doing for Halloween costumes this year?

I'm doing a Steampunk costume this year, almost done with the sewing and still a bit of work left on props for it.

Here's one of my props that is done

I (well, my children) have two of those guns...I didn't recognize it until Farsky's comment. Well done Sasandra!

With any luck, we'll buy a sewing machine and I'll make a doublet in the next two weeks.

I can always hope, ya know.

I'll be working yet another Halloween. Maybe I'll wear a pimp hat with my scrubs or something.

If the stars align, I'll be sporting the first stages of my pulpy barnstormer costume.

I'll be in the Caribbean on a cruise my family, so I won't be able to wear a full-fledged costume. But I'm going to look around or find something small to wear the night of the halloween, maybe a funny hat or something.

Yeah, I see so many people modding that one for Steampunk costumes, it really is almost the perfect toy gun for it, cool revolver look and under $10, how can you go wrong. Kind of wishing I just got two of them but I decided my 2nd gun would be that huge nerf chain gun tha i'm modding to strap to my arm, however still the only thing i've done is disassemble it and cut the handle off.

Thought I posted this already. Maybe in another thread. Ah well. My original plan was to be the Burger King and have a take-out paper sack full of candy that I would hand out to people after quietly staring at them from behind. I wanted to sew the costume similar to my awesome ranger outfit (still my favorite costume of all time) a few years back. But I didn't have enough time. So I decided to just go with a store-bought costume.

The costume is much cooler than I was expecting. It has a battery-powered internal fan to keep it inflated and it has holes on the inside to keep me cool. With Hulk Hands, the costume comes together even better.

The tapering at wrists/ankles reminds me of chibi characters (would look a heck of a lot cooler with oversized hands/feet), but I agree. That's pretty cool.

I've wanted to do a Jack Sparrow costume for a few years now, but due to budget and/or time constraints, I was unable to do so. I thought I would try one this year, but after looking around a good bit and thinking about all that was involved, I got a little discouraged. It also doesn't help that it's been one of the most popular costumes for a few years now. You can't go anywhere without seeing a couple of Jacks running around. So a while back, we were watching At World's End and I saw what Will Turner was wearing and thought that it would be a much easier costume to do, and I wouldn't have to worry about bumping into another costume like it.

I especially liked the colors, and the way he looked towards the end of the movie, when he had the bandanna on. So I started working towards that look, but somewhere along the way it evolved quite a bit. Now it's more like a cross between Will and Jack, but I'm pretty pleased with the way it turned out.

These first two pics are from before the costume was finished. My coat was not done yet, and the vest didn't have any buttons yet. But you can get a good idea of what it was supposed to look like. Original movie/prop pics thrown in for comparison.

The rest of the pictures are of the finished costume. I'll be wearing this to 2 Costume parties, and to pass out candy on Halloween. My wife and daughters are all dressing up as pirates, too. Should be fun!

this year... although I have more of my harlequin outfit prepped... I will be going as an employee of my current employer. I get paid for it too. The only problem is... I am the only one who will be at the party.

I was going to go as Coraline until I realized I'd spend $30 just getting my hair the right blue and then spend forever tracking down a yellow rain coat. Then I'd be stuck with blue hair for a few weeks.

About the same time I realized this I also noticed the batgirl costume that was 50% off.

My costume scared the most kids this year (and most of them were fans of this comic character... I guess they didn't expect to ever see him up close and personal). The runners-up for "Scared most kids" were Bert & Ernie. I wasn't TRYING to scare them. They would just stare in silence at me, and the second I looked back.... Cry City. And here I was thinking that NOT going as Frank the Bunny was kind of me.

It is the red eyes. That is what makes it scary.

Heh. That's just the camera flash. My contacts were clear. I think it was more the angry-brow prosthetic.

Didn't have a camera with me when I went out but here's a few pics I got before leaving the house.

Can someone explain the Steam Punk think to me? Is it just another offshoot like Gothic Punk or Cyber Punk? If so, what are the staple movies/mangas/cartoons that established this "sub-culture" (not trying to belittle it, just unsure if "sub-culture" is the correct technical term).

When I first heard the word, I thought it was just a term for an ******* who played Valve games online.
