Post subject:  Question about gluing stuff together.
My father's dog was in my room earlier today and got spooked. She ran, but not before getting my headphone cord caught around her and she pulled them off my desk and one of the ear pieces broke off. I figure super glue would work, right? Or is there some other kind of glue that would be better suited?

I'd have to see a picture, but if you have super glue on hand and it's a clean break, it should work. The key to super glue is that ou have to be able to match the pieces perfectly - and quickly, as it sets in an instant. The bonus of epoxy is that you can work with it to get it lined up, and it will fill small cracks or imperfections in the pieces. But ... they generally take 24 hours to set, unless you get some 5-minute epoxy. Even then, I'd wait at least an hour, the longer the better.

What's the earpiece made of? Plastic, I assume? You could always go for some Testor's or similar model glue. keep in mind that these work by partially melting or dissolving the plastic.

I used some super glue because I had it on hand. It worked fine. I'm just...not too sure how well it will hold or how fragile it is. I've been wearing it for 2 hours, though. But I'm still kinda worried that if I am too rough with it, it will come off.

I probably would have tried tape, but we don't have any.

(a bit late with this, but posting anyway)

yes, a picture would be helpful.

I have quite a bit of experience with various types of adhesives on various materials.

As Aethien said, cyanoacrylate adhesive should work, but we aware that some plastics will not bond well (you'll have to consult our resident chemist for a more technical explanation).

Also, all epoxies are not created equal, and they can be messy. It might be applicable if the break isn't clean.

Another option, if you think its not stable. Wrap some thread or string around the break. This can work with either CA or Epoxie. This is how the eyelets are glued to fishing rods. It's a great technique and can even be presentable looking if you are careful.

If nothing else, there is always... :p
