Ok, what's with the dead link and the chicken? I don't get it. And what's with the Gabba Gabba thing? Wasn't that an Amdee thing? I flipped through the channels the other day and saw a show called Hey Gabba Gabba and it was some 70s skinny black dude in a bright raincoat talking to clouds with bad synthesizer muzak. And this too. Is it an inside joke as well or just some sort of monkey ape thingy. Also: These rock. Thanks! |

is a pokemon. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Psyduck Quote: Cultural impact
Psyduck on a ANA Boeing 767 circa 1998.Described as "downright silly" by GameSpy, Psyduck has been well received by the media.[14] The New York Times compared it to a duck-billed platypus, adding that it "looks entertainingly silly".[15] GameDaily described it as "one of the more unique Pokémon characters", as well as weird, noting it has changed little in either aspect throughout the history of the franchise.[16] They also named it as the seventh best Pokémon they would like to eat, noting that while duck is tasty its strange headaches may make it unsafe to eat.[17] IGN described the character as a "cult favorite" amongst fans, attributing the reaction to its "bizarre, bewildered appearance",[18] as well as citing it as a favorite character around their offices.[19] GamesRadar also called it one of the more popular from the original games, describing it as fun to use "if only to see the reaction of other players".[20] The Coventry Evening Telegraph also praised its design, stating the character was "more interesting" in comparison to more commonly seen Pokémon such as Squirtle.[21] Author Loredana Lipperini described Psyduck as the "comic talents" of Nintendo.[22] GameSpot editor Greg Kasavin praised Psyduck as a "tried-and-true classic" Pokémon.[23] CNET called Psyduck a recognizable Pokémon.[24] |

Other inside jokes for the board: The tradition of >BONK<'ing newcomers with an AOS (Abandon Orc Shovel) Was an original EQ weapon, primarily useful for its high speed (which made it a good way to raise your skill with 2 handed blunt weapons, especially for classes that didn't have many 2hb weapons --rangers for example) --it was also a rather silly looking item, and found lying on the ground. Anything about Monte The "Sellout" of Sunmoon the +1 system of ranking posts that lived and died in the original board incarnation. People strived to keep a 'positive' board ranking but it basically came down to a popularity contest. |

Yeah I remember someone telling me about the bonking/shovel thing the last time I asked. I welcome anyone newer than me, but I refuse to bonk them...that has an entirely different meaning for me than the old Rangers. I'm not into bonking strangers as a form of greeting. |

"Gabba gabba" or "gabba gabba hey" is a Ramones reference. Amdee was a huge Ramones fan, and often used the phrase as shorthand for the line "Gabba, gabba, we accept you, we accept you one of us!" in the song Pinhead, a line which she felt was emblematic of the Ramones and their contribution and message to the punk movement. I can't speak to what that show you saw was, but it's not anything Ramones related. Although, I initially read it as "some 70s skinny dude in black" and was like "Why is Joey Ramone anywhere near bad sythesizer muzak?" Oh, and the dead Link and chicken is a reference to most of the Legend of Zelda games, in which if you attacked a Cucco, they would swarm Link and could kill you. |

I remember the gabba thing being associated with Amdee but wasn't really sure why...I'm glad it was a Ramones thing. I seriously spent 10 minutes watching Hey Gabba Gabba and racking my brain trying to figure out what about it Amdee saw as so special as to quote it all the time! If those who have passed on get to watch what goes on down here, then I'm sure she had a good laugh at my expense. TheRiov wrote: LadyKate wrote: Boinking, bonking, same thing. I think that individual posts should be ranked. It would make people write with more quality. |

The one I saw was how I described it and all I could think of was how this show could only be interesting if you were either very stoned, drunk, or under the age of 5. Well, here when we say 'nurse the baby' we mean breastfeeding. What do they mean in Australia? |

Just to hold them apparently. I was watching a documentary where the Australian speaker explained how he ran afoul with this with an American teenager who was staying with his family He wondered why she was so shocked when he invited her to nurse the baby and more so when she declined and he said he'd just nurse the baby instead. |

The psyduck emote, along with and were shamelessly stolen from somethingawful. The emote was originally :airquote:. I'm not sure how it wound up in the Glade emoticon list. I used it as just an embedded image from my private stash in one post, and I guess Mook liked it. The popcorn emote was requested by Mook, and I asked for psyduck because 1) he's grown on me and 2) nothing quite conveys the feeling of deep confusion as well as psyduck. To clarify the meaning of : SAClopedia wrote: Psyduck is a minor character from the popular children's (and sometimes adult) cartoon series Pokemon. His claim to fame is that he is an exceptionally powerful Pokemon, but suffers from chronic headaches, or migraines that render him useless whenever he is called upon to do anything meaningful. Whenever the is used it's often to indicate that the thread, reply, or the poster being referred to was so confusing (or just so retarded) that it gave the reader a splitting headache It should also be mentioned that the Psyduck looks a lot more like a Platypus than an actual duck and since the Platypus is pretty much one of the most WTF species of animals (mammal that lays eggs) the emoticon works on that level as well. I won't lie -- I love the SA emoticon set more than I probably should. ... |
