So... why?

I don't, but I should. Part of me wants to, but most of the rest of me doesn't. I never liked it when I had a gym membership and have never tried to add an at-home workout routine.

When I do it, it's a combination of looking good for the wife, health, and feeling really good.

Lately, I've been working from 9am-10pm or so, and between that and trying to keep some semblance of order at home, I haven't been working out much. I really should get back into it.

I work out just enough to convince myself I'm not a *total* couch potato.

I don't. I don't like pain. Eat less calories and you won't get fat.

There's a lot more to exercise and fitness than calories = fat. Not being fat doesn't necessarily mean you are healthy.

It means I don't look like a slug.

Also Native Americans exercised all the time but their lifespan was only 30-35.

I answered #2....Since Xmas I'm down 25 pounds and over 10% of my body mass. I've lost 4 inches on my waist and am enjoying doing it. I was tired of being a fat slob and decided to do something about it.

I usually work out around 10PM after we get the kids to bed. Instead of sitting on the couch watching tv, I go downstairs and run/bike while watching the same shows I would have otherwise been watching on the couch.

Have 20 more pounds to my goal of my high school graduation weight.

Because your body is a machine, and machines that aren't used get rusty. I have been working too much and not working out enough, but hopefully I'll get back to the routine in the next week or so.

P.S. Working out doesn't have be about getting fat. You can be skinny and still very unhealthy, or overweight and healthy.

I am 6'1" weigh between 160-165 (depending on the morning constitutional) and have a cholesterol level over 300. So yeah, skinny/lean does not equal healthy.

I answered "I don't", because the way I'm reading this, you mean working out in a gym and stuff. I hate that, can't stand being in that environment. Home is marginally better, but unless I'm doing something that I enjoy, it's not very satisfying for me. Running in place, lifting a piece of metal, bending over and stretching - all seem sort of pointless without an actual activity involved.

Now, if you ask about my bike riding (which, apart from hiking and MMA (medieval martial arts) in a former life, is pretty much the only form of exercise I've ever been able to do - then the answer is a combination of "health," "love to exercise" (meaning I love to ride my bike), and "I really should." Can't wait to retire so I can go on bike tours and get back to doing 150 miles or so a week.

I do it for health reasons and I am wanting to get back down to the weight I was at when I first met my hubby.

I try to walk at least 1 1/2 to 2 miles a day. I also do some pushups, squats, and weights. It's a slow process, but it's getting easier every day that I do it, and the weight is slowly coming off. :)

I run because it is a stress reliever..and I love the way I feel when I do it. I like the way I look since I have been working out also. I actually feel yucky if I miss a day. I'm doing something everyday.

Health (mental and physical)...I actually feel way more alert focused and healthier if I've been exercising. It helps keep away anxiety / depression. And rolls.

I put "health" because it's true, but the most important reason for me - my job requires physical fitness - is not up there.

"Self Defense" is another possible reason...

Yeah. I've come to the conclusion recently that I'm really much weaker than my self-image says I am.

Yeah, I think we have at least one other person (besides me, where "self defense" falls under "job") who got into phyiscal fitness partly out of a need for self defense.
