So what did you do this weekend? Yeah, I started this thread to brag, but I had a great weekend. My wife and I flew to Denver. I hadn't seen Taamar since before Shelgeyr (or my wife) was on the scene, she hadn't met my wife, etc. We flew in early Saturday, got in the Hertz car (a white Yaris, which is funny as we drive a black Echo at home and my sister-in-law has a black Yaris, so it felt oddly right), drove out, went out for breakfast, and Taamar and Shel had a waitress on her hands and knees under the table providing service. Well, OK, so a glass was dropped and broke, but it was GOOD food. Definitely a place I could go to weekly or more frequently and not get sick of... We also pet Taamar's pussy, and my wife even had it straddling her lap, and she wanted to do that at home. We also got to pet the new pussy they picked up recently, though that pussy was not as outgoing and was fairly shy. We also saw Shel abuse Taamar's pussy with a brush but the pussy seemed to like it. OK, OK... so it was the famous Mao and a new kitty that was found in a dumpster recently, but I had to write it like this. Later, the question of the new kitty's old name came up - what it used to be called - and my wife said 'Dumpster kitty, of course' and I said 'Oh sure, I can hear it now... Come, Dumpster! Come, Dumpster!' After breakfast, a demo of Plants vs. Zombies, and a game of Pandemic (both highly recommended), my wife and I went to the hotel and passed out, while Taamar slaved away at work. When we woke up, we wanted to go to Café Berlin, but they were closed, and we walked to A Taste of Colorado, but decided not to pay highway robbery prices for food. Well, it wasn't really that bad, but stand & eat + high prices doesn't sound that fun, so we did a little Yelp on iPhone and ended up on Larimer. Osteria Marco was the establishment we chose, but the Larimer area by Osteria Marco was full of options. Sea Scallop BLT + Mushroom Panini with Frutti di Mare appetizer was awesome, and they had an interesting beverage they called the Silver Berry. We went back to the hotel, and the plan was to get together with Taamar after work, but she wasn't feeling well, so we amused ourselves in the hotel room (with a Mythbuster's marathon, of course!). The next morning, we woke up, got together, and went to a brunch of salads (I ordered the Van Go when I meant to order the Edgar Allen Poe, but all the options would have been tasty at the place they recommended.) We then went to their FLGS which isn't so L but was definitely F and G, and played some Fluxx and Unexploded Cow. Both highly recommended, though we didn't have the option to buy Unexploded Cow. Alas, Taamar had to work once more, so we were left in Shelgeyr's tender mercies, and he took us to a land far, far away... (really, they need to move because most of their friends are so far away that they spend almost as much time driving to game with them as gaming...), where we did some Tsuro and some Race to the Galaxy (Shel can correct me on the spelling/titles later). We got a lot of hugs from the gaming group, which was a bunch of people whom you would be glad to call neighbor and lucky to call friend. This gave us a chance to get together with Taamar one last time, so we did, and went to a fantastic place called Jerusalem where Taamar appreciated the waitress for more than her service. Alright, home, albeit slightly later than expected. Monday started with 'Hey, let's get breakfast from this interesting hot dog stand...' down on 16th & Arapahoe. We walked over, saw an interesting downtown (the sort of walking mall that is usually anchored by very upscale stores being anchored by Athlete's Foot and Rite Aide, got there, and there was only one guy doing dogs. We had the bratwurst (medium fail - tasty but lacking in carbon) and a smoked German (acceptable but not superlative was her review.) Then it was 'Well, let's finally go to the Zoo!' - Denver has a magnificent zoo and park and it was well worth the trip, though we did not see the red pandas, despite much hoping and waiting outside their small enclosure. It was busy, so it was ~10 minute walk around the edge of the zoo to where we could park our car. There was a show (closed for the season until next spring/summer I guess) with a lot of edutainment value, which was worth the wait. Taamar gave us an address for one of her favorite shops, so we visited and patronized the shop as it was a fairly remarkable shop - clean, friendly, bright, great service, everything you want in a shop and yet qualities that can be hard to find. We stopped for tortas, which was surprising and tasty, not too far from said shop. We then decided we'd try to crash on Taamar at work, where she was using her advertising skills to try to pimp a Hot Flash or Steak on a Stick to the A Taste of Colorado visitors. We didn't run into her on our first trip, but we ran into Shelgeyr, who was there to see Foghat and Taamar, and definitely not in that order. So when we all went to the booth area she ought to be, and saw her there, we went over, goosed her, gabbed, and went to see Foghat. Ah, Foghat... they started with the C list or B list songs, and we had to go to catch the plane before they got to the hits (last time I went to visit Taam, I spent overnight in the MN airport going stir crazy because of a missed flight.) Still, it was fun watching them, and they have a decent amount of talent, but it was more amusing seeing the 60+ year old woman, her date, and their friend passing around a pipe. We do have a photo of some mullet of unusual design that may get posted later. As we just got home and I should be asleep, I can't really find the energy to get a cable out, etc. Monty Python Fluxx is a great way to pass the time at an airport if traveling with a geek. My wife will actually (albeit softly) sing 'Every sperm is sacred...' if it helps her win the game. I think that is all. And somehow, despite having all sorts of technology, I am sure no one took a group photo. Let me say this, though: Taamar (in my wife's estimation): cute, petite but fiery. Shelgeyr (in my estimation): An interesting man who lived a non-boring life and has a good charisma about him. Very good at hugging. |

This thread is useless without pictures. I went to Ducal Prize, an annual SCA event to raise funds. I'd forgotten how much I enjoy geeking out medieval style. Only did one shout, I've still got it. |

I played...Final Fantasy 8 for reasons that aren't entirely clear to me. I also finished said game. Then I started playing Final Fantasy VI Advance. I also took care of our new born bulldog puppies and our not so new born bulldog puppies. |

I spent the weekend with my son and my stepson and his family. I already knew that my son and my stepson were amazing young men, but my daughter-in-law is an exceptional young woman! She and my stepson are raising two very adorable sons!! (Yes, I'm predjudiced!! ) I had sushi for the first time this weekend! I had what was called Beach Rolls...crab sticks wrapped in rice, wrapped in seaweed, wrapped in salmon, with a nice hot sauce dribbled over the top. Was very good!! I need to find a good sushi place nearby now! My son and I went to Cracker Barrel for brunch on Monday. I had biscuits and gravy...this is the only place I've ever been to that made biscuits like my mom did! It brought back so many memories!! I didn't want to leave, but it feels sooo good to be home. They all want us to move there when my hubby retires, but there are too many negatives that outweigh the positives right now. We will see! |
