Post subject:  Questions

1) If you box with boxing gloves, how do you know if your hand will break? Are there any techniques I should know?

2) What sort of activities are free and make you better at fighting? Will hitting trees with sticks in the woods work? Do I need to fight actual people?

3) What is the best way to increase your stamina by running? Should you jog/run?

4) What is the best way to tell when someone is going to start a fight with you? Is the person typically calm or not? Has anyone been in a fight? I would like real evidence. Thanks.

Thanks all for your help. This isn't trolling. Ok?

frequently

...

During an interaction, how do you know? What are good signs? Are their faces redder than yours or not? Or less red? What are the TRUE body language clues? What body language do you choose to show to prevent a fight, other than running away? Should you be calm or be really fidgety or what?

1) You shouldn't fight with boxing gloves on. You should box with them on. If you fight with boxing gloves on, you will get destroyed because you can't clinch as well or grapple.

There is no gauruntee not to break your hand with boxing gloves hitting a bag, working the mits or sparring. Some types of gloves are more prone than others. Mexican style gloves like Cleto Reyes or Pro-Mex (by Title, which are Reyes knock offs) are a "punchers" glove. You will feel every blow, your hand will feel in the next day. Winning (expensive Japanese brand) and Grants are a bit more forgiving, both on your hand and sparring partner.

Floyd Mayweather uses Winning, he breaks his hands a lot. They are like $300 bucks though. Use full hand wraps and possibly knuckle guards. I doubt you can punch a bag hard enough to hurt your hand, but you could break your wrist.

2) There is no formula to being a good "fighter". What are you trying to do? Beat people up? Compete? Just train to get in shape? If you are looking to just go beat people up, go get some friends or learn to fight dirty.

Fighting is a sport to some, an art to others, maybe both to some, doesn't matter. If you learn to actually become a great competitor, some of the people who study martial arts longer than I on this board will tell you, you will learn a respect for yourself and others. You don't need to just go fight other people for no reason.

3) Run, swim and bike. Hit the bag. Jump rope. Run up hills. Lift weights in a no rest circuit.

4) If they are drunk, they probably will start a fight. Why are you concerned about getting in a fight? There's usually a way out of it.

1) My hand bled some from punching, is this normal?

2) I want to be able to defend myself if someone attacks me over girls.

3) Ok. I don't have a bike is that necessary?

4) Do drunk people really fight a lot? Are their punches easy to avoid? Do they fight sober people?

1. I think your intuition ought to guide you on this one. If you hit a heavy bag bare knuckle long enough, two things will happen: you'll begin to develop stress factures and your kunckles will become like leather.

2. My suggestion is fighting isn't the best defense. Avoiding the situation to begin with is. Allistair Overeem and his brother Valentijn were in the news a while back for sending 5 night club bouncers to the hospital because they picked fights with them over something stupid. But those guys are Pro Heavyweights.

My point is, fighting is mostly a sport, art or entertainment for most of population. It's some self-defense, but in self-defense courses, they teach avoidance as the primary defense technique. People can have guns and knives and all sorts of ****. People can bring friends, soccer kick your head and ribs, rabbit punch you, fish hook you, eye rake, groin kick etc. Do you really want to train for all that? There's a reason why street fighters don't do well in organized fights, and why professional fighters avoid street fights.

Soldiers and elite specialist squads (like the SAS) are the only types that train for that sort of brutalness (and maybe Rio Heroes Vale Tudo fighters which are borderline legal) but they are trained to a standard and with equipment and supplementation necessary.

3) Nope, don't have to have a bike. It's just another option for when your knees, ankles and shins start to suffer from high impact cardio.

4) Drunk people get into fights all the time. Even easy going people I know get beer muscles when they are sauced. I don't know how to tell if someone is going to fight me.
