I am not opposed to using such a thing, except that tau is fairly well defined as a dummy variable. They would need to pick a different Greek letter. Moreover, having to multiply pi by two serves as a good barrier to entry for most of the fields where a firm grasp of the relationship between a circle's radius, diameter, and circumference are importance. You must be this tall to ride the ride, as it were. |

Replacing pi with its double would also make the arc length and circle area formulas cumbersome. |
